Congrats Beth! Good luck with the move.
Use an electric dryer, for the same reason you use an electric oven. More stable temperature. Even at the lowest setting, gas dryers just get super hot for a very short period of time.

I got the job offer this morning. The whirlwind will start soon..
My tentative separation date here in New Orleans is August 15. Pray for no hurricanes at that time.
I see more wool in my future....
OMG, what have I just done?
And do you use gas or electric dryers???
Beth

oh, and the thing about the dryers - we use gas down here, and my dryer was just pronounced dead. Cheaper to replace than to repair. Since my house tends to be in the "starter home" size, thought I'd leave the washer & dryer behind as a way to market the house (+ newish roof, new a/c & heater, new water main, new floors). So was thinking to buy a less expensive gas dryer to use now, then buy new once I got up there, if new place doesn't come with one, or I'm in an appartment for a while.

It depends, but I'd guess more commonly electric (really depends on the area, but even when homes have gas, it's still a split where some things are and some things aren't).
Congratulations on the job/move and welcome to the area!!![]()
If the house isn't already set up for both options and you want to switch from what the previous owners had, you'd need a bit of work done either way, since electric dryers run on 220.
We had propane to the water heater and furnace only when we moved in. It didn't cost a lot to run a gas line up to the kitchen.
We didn't shell out for a gas stovetop with electric oven though. If there's a next time, we will. Best of both worlds.

Joining in the congratulations (that was a long haul process, eh?!) and hearty welcome to the great Pacific Northwest, Beth! I'm a native New Yorker, but have been here for over 20 yrs, so I'm not a recent transplant...am hoping you love it as much as I do.

Around here, some neighborhoods (like mine) have no gas lines -- everything is electric. So I would think that you need to know where you're living before you know what kind of appliances you're dealing with.

Gas dryer is very hard on clothes, because of what I said - it doesn't maintain a steady temperature, it gets super hot and then cools down for a while if it's not on the hottest setting. We've got a gas dryer in one house and electric in the other, so I get a direct comparison.
Not that I've used either one yet this year.Almost thought I was going to have to, it's been so cloudy and humid, but I got a load done today.
