    An apology from a driver!!

So I was doing some errands today. I am always traffic conscious and try to act like a vehicle and not a clueless person riding through the neighborhoods. So I was at a four way stop, catching everyone's eye, waiting my turn and sure enough when it was my turn this other guy turns left right in front of me. I couldn't help myself and yelled at him: "a**hole, I had the right of way!!". Oops, that's not very smart was the very next thought in my head.
So the guy circles around the block, pulled up next to me, and apologized for not seeing me. I then of course apologized for calling him an a**hole, and explained I was just following the rules of the road. Whew. All is good.

Of course that does nothing for there being no bike racks at my destination...sigh...

An apology? That's quite a nice surprise.

I did that one time to a runner. It was dark and he didn't have reflective anything except his shoes. I admit I was glancing over at the house that was being built 4 doors down from me (for 2 seconds maybe), and when I looked back- I saw the runner in the car's path. He jumped on the grass and yelled at me. I turned around and apologized for almost hitting him, but told him I couldn't see him. He said he'd wear more reflective stuff next time.

I was running pretty regularly at the same time of day for a while, and I would generally run the same route. One day I decided to shorten my route for lack of time (or lengthen it for more distance? it's a bit blurry), and crossed the street at a 4-way stop going a different direction. A car went through the intersection at the time, which happens to me frequently so I thought nothing of it. The man turned his car around, came back, and apologised, explaining that usually I don't go that way and he was sorry for not waiting. I didn't even know what to say, other than "oh, thanks so much, and no problem."

It's nice when we acknowledge that each of us is human - bicycle, car, pedestrian, or otherwise. It's sad that it's so infrequent.
