I was reading this interval training on earthklink health and lifestyle news.
Just a thought on training and how to come back up to speed quicker.
Yeah, intervals are a necessary evil in my training plan. Hate 'em, love the results.
For 3 days, I get to part of a thousand other journeys.
good morning all. I read the interval training article and am excited about trying it out. The article recomended 4 sessions of 4 minute HIT followed by 3minutes of rest. That would be a total of approx 30mins. Does this seem too short a time? Anyone have any other recomendatios where it is bicycle specific? Heart rate etc during the HIT stage and the resting stage?
I think it might be a good idea to work up to 4 minutes of intense training and 3 minutes of rest (especially if you're planning to endure the entire 30 minutes). Since I have only recently hopped back on my bike again, I am currently working doing 1 minute intense cycling, 1-2 minutes rest. After a while I'll probably do 2 minutes intense cycling with 2-3 minutes rest. You should probably also monitor your heart rate to make sure you stay within a healthy range![]()

Interval training is just fantastic. I do a 90 minutes power based interval workout 2 times a week. 3 weeks of Feb was focused on building to long intervals at a pretty high threshold power (close to 200 watts building up to 30 minutes at a time, varying 90 - 110 RPM).
I can really see amazing improvement from just that 3 weeks of 3 hour a week work. Looking forward to seeing what's in store for March. Some zone 4 (>200 watts) I suspect. Ack!
