    Denver Fire Department found the cat in downtown Denver (!), almost exactly halfway between the old house and the new. The microchip identified her. Tonks is on her way home!

    That is great news!! Cats often try to get back "home" when they are moved.

    Very pleased to hear kitty is homebound! I'm confused though.. the fire department looks for lost cats?

    Those have been debated at length here. To me it looks like an accident waiting to happen, but there are people who use them.

    Sorry I should have done a search. I usually take Nanook to places where she can run loose. I think your dog would have to be really well trained to run well on one of those.

    ah, correction. My sister told me it was actually the "firehouse animal care" vet, not the fire department who connected the dots and found Tonks' family. I thought the involvement of a large metro fire department a bit extreme, too, but, well, she is quite the kitty.
