Our blue & gold macaw, BeeGee, who has been with us a little over 2 years. She was adopted from a rescue near Philadelphia, after being confiscated in a drug raid on a crack house. She is a gentle, trusting soul, but still flinches if we move our hands too quickly around her head. Someone hit her sometime in her past![]()

dang that is messed up. good for you! what a beautiful bird. She was adopted form a rescue near Philadelphia, after being confiscated in a drug raid on a crack house.
What a gorgeous bird! I had a parrot for 10 years. He was (is, I just don't have him anymore) very sincere and honest in a way. I miss the little guy.
I'm "stepmom" to our 7 yr old pitbull mix (at least, she was labeled as such by the shelter), Portia. She truly lives up to her name...her greatest love is food (or whoever is holding food).
She's a great ambassador for pitbull breeds, though. She's super sweet (although, she used to nudge me off of the couch when DH and I first started dating!), and most people who aren't familiar with pitbulls are surprised to find out that she could be "one of those vicious dogs."
I'd never thought about bird rescues, but that's really cool! So many good people here, opening their homes to animals of all sorts in need.![]()
We're looking at getting Yukon a friend & started our search today at one doggie refuge today (we are often on two doggie refuge websites having a quick peek). There was a dog we could have taken home but we'll be away at two events in a few weeks, can't take both of them with us & can't just leave the newer one in a kennel for the weekend.
Have to tell you about this MASSIVE slobbery dog (some sort of masitff cross)that was therePoor thing hadn't been taken care of by its previous owner & had not only eye problems but was matted
. A gentle giant though!
Hey CC have you seen this website below:

It lists most of the rescue sights within each state.
Good luck with your search.![]()
The most effective way to do it, is to do it.

What a pretty, soulful face your lumbar support/foot warmer has!
I learned recently that our local Humane Society and the local domestic violence agency have teamed up to help provide foster care for women who must leave their homes but are fearful of leaving pets behind. I plan on speaking with my landlord (who, I'm grateful, is pretty laid back and pet friendly) about getting onto the fostering list. I'm fortunate in that my apartment is large enough for both Chloe and Hunter to chase each other and play. If it can also provide refuge for another animal that may be the deciding factor for a woman leaving a violent situation I'd like to be able to do that.

What a great program. Animals are such a source of comfort. These women can know not just that their animal is safe from abuse but they could (I hope) be able to visit the animal and get them back in the future.

I would have no problem with visitations especially since the majority of the women served have children. I think that the kids being allowed to see/play with their pets would help to alleviate some of the confusion/anxiety of the situation.they could (I hope) be able to visit the animal and get them back in the future.
