What a great idea!
And WRT membership, it looks like that's mainly for legal and security reasons (corporate structure, plus having a key after hours) since day passes are available for the hours that the facility is staffed.

A new option at a public transit hub in Tempe, Arizona (near Phoenix)... staffed by experienced cyclists, with showers, lockers, tools, etc etc. Sounds pretty neat.

It's not in my area, but I'm still excited that something like this is opening in my state!
Do any of you use a facility like this elsewhere in the country/world? I find the semi-public nature of it sort of interesting--you need to be a member, but it seems like pretty much anyone who commutes by bike can join.

Oh, wow. Mixed feelings here. So proud my former hometown has done this. I was just telling a friend all of the great classes my kids did at the community center there.
But, I can't imagine riding in those temperatures, even for a short commute. And the traffic. A stoplight every 1/2 a mile in every direction, for hundreds of miles.
And we've been fighting about a multi use path for about 20 years around here...
Yeah, it makes sense--makes sure that only the people who belong are in there, and that they're able to use the funds to effectively maintain the facilities for those folks.
My aunt/uncle and cousins used to live in Tempe too.Originally Posted by Crankin

Granted, it's often a few degrees cooler here than up in Phx, and my commute is short, but the other day I biked the 3ish miles home in a sunny 101F and would have been fine to keep going. Knowing there was air conditioning and a shower waiting at the other end helped... but that's the beauty of the parking hub, too, no?![]()
