It automatically downloads your stats & route to a RunKeeper web page as well.

Have you read their privacy policy ? Apparently they have authority to share your contacts with their "contractors" , and "sub-contractors". I Read the application reviews posted on iTunes and it scared me away.

Good point...but then, how else would they use the internet, applying voice recognition software, to identify and dial a contact saved in my phone - without sharing it with someone?
IMHO, the safety consideration outweighs the theoretically potential abuse of my contact list...

I don't have an IPhone, way tooooooooo expensive here. aprox 750 € (that's about 1000 $).
I would be cheaper to take a flight to New York, buy one there and come back.![]()

I won't list all my apps, but the mapmyride is fun. Does total moving time and avg speed. Sucks down the battery though. Will export a map to their website. I also use the internet to check the weather radar when I'm out.

the standard mapping app bailed me out yesterday while riding in a strange area of Georgia when I came to a "bridge out" sign![]()

If you were on your mtb, you wouldn't shy away from such matters.
Oh, that's right. You don't own a mtb. You're a performance cyclist.![]()
I don't have an iphone, but I saw a commercial tonight from Nationwide Insurance. They've created an app that allows you to file claims, including attaching photos, getting the other person's info, and using the GPS to locate the exact spot of the accident. I thought that was pretty cool, and a nice embrace of the technology on their part.
I caved in and bought one of the new 3GS phones the middle of last month... and have been really surprised at how much I use it. Right out of the box, the Maps function has helped me out when I wandered out of my usual territory in search on New Roads to Ride, and brought me safely back to some semblance of civilization... The Camera function has been useful, and I finally figured out how to download the pictures to my computer ;-)
As for apps:
- Files (text and Word file reader)
- GoodReader (handles large PDFs
- Google Earth
- iMapMyRide
- Kindle
- Weather Channel
- UrbanSpoon
- WebMD
- White Pages
- VerseWise (Bible (KJV, and quite good, there's now dust on my leather-covered edition)
- MotionX GPS
- Graphing Calculator
- Mathematics (I'm a cookbook mathematician, and this is a collection of cheatsheets for various formulae)
- Pandora Radio
- Traffic!
- Oklahoma/Arkansas Weather Radar
- Arkansas Atlas
No games, though...
With the GoodReader, Files, and YouTube apps, I've got my League Smart Cycling material loaded on the iPhone, and can hold class in the coffee shop, in the parking lot, or along the side of the road as needed. It's a neat little tool.
