What's up this week?
I was hoping to run today but the hubby convinced me to go out and have a nice dinner instead. We went for a long and steep but slow hike yesterday on a route that I sometimes run. I feel completely recovered (but then I wasn't ever really sore or anything...just really hungry). I'll be riding a lot now since I have the MS ride at the end of June. I hope to keep running a few days a week, though, in the event I want to tackle something a little later in the summer.

Yellow- I really hope I can feel as great as you do after my 50k in August. So glad to hear you are recovering so well!!
I had a hard time talking myself into going out for a run today. It was raining & windy. But I ended up buying a few pieces of tech-gear that I needed this morning which is always good incentive to get out. Fortunately the run was far better than the weather. By the time I really settled into my run it was over, but I refrained from going further, hilly 50mi bike tomorrow.![]()
I've still got a black blood-blister/toenail from the marathon & a reoccurring blister on the tip of the toe next to it. Thankfully neither hurt at all, but every time I run they puff up again. It's odd.

I'm faster than I thought I was! Yesterday, instead of doing one of my usual meadering, unmeasured routes I decided to bite the bullet and run a few laps of the city park in my neighborhood (it's right close to 1 mile around the perimeter (but not at all flat!)). Now, my watch is not a sports watch at all, just an ordinary wind-up old fashioned watch, so the accuracy might not be so great, but I did the first 2 miles in about 18 minutes-- and I could have gone faster easily. Woohoo!!!
And then this morning I passed a pretty fit looking man who for once was going the same direction as me! Now, I had only been running for about 15 minutes, and he looked like he'd been going a lot longer, but still...
In other words, I'm psyched!
Good job, skhill. Isn't it nice when it comes together?
I ran 40 minutes on the trails behind my house... after an 1 1/2 hour walk with the dogs. It went better than I thought it would. I'm really enjoying the trails this year.
I am missing running terribly! Been walking twice a week and doing a lot of cycling, though.
I went for my PT session yesterday. He did ultra sound and deep tissue release. From what he told me, it sounds like classic TMJ. My dentist has brought up the same thing, so the PT was going to confer with a colleague who is an expert in that. He also gave me lots of bio freeze samples, which I love.
I am a little disappointed in the deep tissue release. He was overly cautious and told me I might be sore. I did get relief for a few hours and the lower part of my neck and shoulder are better. But, the part on my actual head is the same. I wish I could put the Bio-Freeze on my scalp! I go again Friday and I need to tell him that I need more "pressure" when he is doing the release.
My hip is still achy, which concerns me. I really thought it was from running, because it started when I began running more than 3 miles. Well, I am keeping up the stretching and yoga and next week I will be starting a yoga/meditation class for the whole summer (once a week).
Guess I have to live vicariously through you guys for at least another week.
Great job Yellow - and how cool that you feel so well afterwards.
Went for a 6 1/2 mile rather hilly run on Sunday. Then 3 1/2 miles last night.
Right now I've been concentrating more on my swimming and biking since I have a sprint tri coming up soon. Making myself get up early and hit the pool has definitely been a challenge. I skipped this morning so now I plan on going later tonight. Can't let myself get out of it again, must go .... must go. Do not let the evil slacker in me take over again.
Yellow - A belated congratulations on your 50K! What a wonderful accomplishment! I hope you'll post a few pictures when you get them from your friends.
After 225 miles with about 15,000 feet of elevation gain on my bike this weekend, I expected this morning's 8.35 mile run to be a tough one. As it turned out, I wasn't particularly peppy BUT I was very shocked to feel no muscle fatigue at all in the latter half of the run. Usually by the time I finish one of my long runs, my quads are really talking to me but today I was able to plod along without any problems.
I think I might finally be getting the hang of this whole running thing.
Susan
Well apparently I posted Monday's run in last week's thread. Again.
Anyway, ladder intervals today. My least favorite workout. Now I'm craving beer and there's none in the house.
You'll appreciate this: I'd been getting some bruising across the flexor tendons in my right ankle, from my shoelaces. I have to keep them laced fairly snug or my heels slip. So I rummaged around looking for something to cushion the tongue of the shoe, and I found the perfect thing in my underwear drawer: a removable pad from the bra of a swimsuit.Perfect size and shape, the foam could be a little denser but heck, it does the job.
There's even a pair, if I start having trouble with the other ankle.

I ran this morning for the first time in a few months (time to start cross training!) Did three miles plus two 1 minute aerobic intervals in the midst. I'm loosely following runner's world mileage building marathon training guide. The guide assumes you can already run a minimum of 5 miles-- which I can't yet! So I cut it down to three and decreased the number of aerobic intervals.
Man though... on the heels of lifting weights yesterday, I'm now officially waddling around! I thought my buns would be set from all my riding-- turns out isolating them with some exercises does a lot more!![]()

Thanks! Now that's it's a few days past I'm forgetting how tough it was. I'm apparently not the only person who was "surprised" by the course. Note that I did kick butt on most of the 30-somethings (but did get my butt kicked by two of them)! According to the results I was 3rd woman (they didn't do age groups).
And, well, lookie here! Only one picture, but it's not too shabby. It shows off my new favorite running skirt. I LOVE that thing!!!

Nice photo YELLOW! You look like a catalog ad out there!
Are those gators on your ankles ??? Those are too cool!
And the skirt is cool, too. I bought one last year for the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk -- cuz you get the shorts under them and I always chafe in any "real" short. But mine is a little shorter than yours, which makes me self conscious. Ah what the heck, I wore it anyway and was very comfotrable as long as there were no mirrors around!
Anyhoo.... sounds like a very successful run. Congratulations on such a huge feat!

Susan- Sounds like a great way to spend Memorial Day wknd!Glad to hear you were able to run comfortably after the much riding. That has to be a boost!
Reesha- Way to get back at it! Just make sure you don't do too much too soon. Those muscles need a little time to remember what they are supposed to do.
Agreed, Yellow you look beautiful & like one tough cookie at the same time. Thanks for sharing the picture with us!
I had a speedy 5mi group run this morning. Saw the sun rise, smelled fresh cut grass & apple blossoms, it was beautiful. Getting there wasn't so beautiful.
This is the first morning I actually got up, debated whether or not to go & crawled back into bed. Upon doing so DH rolls over and asks in an understanding tone "not running this morning?". Of course then I can't stop thinking about going so I had to get out of bed again. This time for real.
Glad I made it, I felt like a turtle because I spent most of the run alone & that usually means I'm behind everyone else. But after winding through a neighborhood and reaching a straight section I looked back to see that I was surprisingly ahead of the ladies I usually run with. Sometimes my perception of speed is very off, this time it was positive. I don't mind that!
Keep on running!

Yellow, what brand is that running skirt? I like the looks of it better than the one I bought, which is OK, but shorter.
Well, I couldn't control myself and went out for a run earlier. It was lightly misting out and about 50, so I decided to wear my lightest cycling rain jacket over a LS medium weight running shirt. I thought I had made a good choice, since it seemed to start raining harder as soon as I left. Then, when I got down the hill, the sun started peeking out, although it was still misting. I stopped and took the jacket off, leaving it behind a big boulder by the community pond.
I felt pretty good; my neck started feeling a lot better late yesterday afternoon; definitely better ROM and less pain. I did a 21 minute "before cycling" yoga warm up before running, in hopes that will keep the hip thing at bay. I did have to walk for 30 seconds or less a couple of times, but I was not trying to push it, after 10 days of not running. Of course, my GPS just does not work well in cloudy, rainy weather. After I realized it had said my mileage was at .72 for what I knew was close to 1.75, I shut it off. But I did notice pace times in the 9:50 range a couple of times. By the time I looped back to where I left my jacket, I was going to walk the rest of the way up the hill, but I saw another runner start walking up the hill, so I ran slowly and passed her. Then she turned up the steep side of the loop, which I can barely walk up, without hurting my knees, but I kept running, even though she was gone, until I got to my house. I think I probably ran 3.25 miles.
