I eat lots, though I've had to consciously cut back as I haven't been as active for the last few months. When I was running a whole lot I probably consumed between 3000-4000 calories per day!

I don't know what real science says, but I think that my fairly *intense* level of activity when I was running a whole lot amped up my metabolism...and it never really got un-amped when I cut back (but still remained fairly active).

As Trek said, ride to eat and eat to ride.
