Honestly, we have a gas dryer (actually propane, which isn't even as hot as gas) and whenever it needs to be replaced, I'm replacing it with an electric one. Especially if you need it to handle delicate clothes, gas just gets too hot. Rather than a constant low temperature, a gas dryer will get very hot when the burner comes on, and then cool down to the target range.
It's basically the same thing as ovens. The best ovens are electric, because of the more consistent temperature.
My laundry room is already wired for an electric dryer, but IMO it would be worth the expense to get yours wired if it isn't already.
