Smile Feelin' good - passed spandex rider!

Got good info here on getting a bike fit and Jill at Proteus Bike in College Park, MD is booked for awhile so, ok, no rush because I have my commuter bike - just bought a Trek 7.6 FX Thurs. nite and am lovin' life again because I have all my gears after husband and tech guy tried to fix crankset and was down to 2 gears, don't ask! - so rode today to get to my grad class over at AU and on my way home - OMG. beautiful day here in DC! - there's a hill in Rock Creek Park just before my final mile home and, for the 2 time this month, I passed a spandex guy on his road bike. Yay, I'm psych'd!! : )
I know it's mental but...I don't wear spandex, stop at lights, yada-yada...think I'm not as fast as the "big" guys but...I just *love* breezin' by the spandex going uphill. OK, the 2 guys I passed were huff-and-puffin' it but it's my little thrill. Weird?...maybe, but...survived riding thru the elements every day this winter and now have spring fever. Just have to remind myself not to get angry at all the tourists who are out and *not* listening to my bell because we're all enjoying the spring weather, right?!
Hope everyone is having a great riding wknd!! Suzanne - who's in a giddy mood because of better riding weather ahead!

Hold that thought and don't get bummed out when some old geezer in baggy overalls zooms by.

Yeah, you ring the bell, even say "coming up on your left!". Then they get left and right confused and end up standing on the left

This is why I don't carry a gun.

Ha. I had thoughts about guns just yesterday. I have seen air horns on bikes; maybe that's a middle ground.

Suzanne, good for you. I'm still celebrating getting up the hill at all, but I look forward to passing somebody someday.

LOL! I never get to pass people, I'm always the one getting passed. On my way home the other day, though, I passed a dude on a Surly...who also was walking his dog on a leash...and hauling a trailer...with two kids in it. I smoked him!

Yep, that's pretty freakin' mental ... the not stopping at lights bit, I mean.

Yeah, I saw ya' and between huffs and puffs, I was thinkin' "I bet she's not on mile 130 today heading to a double century like me..."

    Just kidding

So, yesterday, Silver and I are on a mountainous ride and 40 miles in, she's bonking on hill. She's on her tri-bike and has been smokin' my rear end. Feeling pretty good, I catch up to her on a terrible hill...and she says "Aw darn! I thought I was doing pretty good...but you caught me!" POP!

She intended for that to mean that she DOES stop at lights.

I read it the same way, Zen. It's easy to read it either way. And I can think MANY times and still get things wrong.
"My predominant feeling is one of gratitude. I have loved and been loved;I have been given much and I have given something in return...Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and an adventure." Hey, I just had an idea. If I start wearing spandex, many bike riders will get a boost. Because right now I'm nearly always the slowest one up a hill.

    Good idea, Pam!

One of our ride leaders says "there will always be somebody older and faster than you."

It is, nonetheless, a boost to be strong. Makes you just want to go out and do it again! (I do remind my self that Mr. or Ms. Spandex may have just done a time trial or metric century and is on the way home )

I kknow. I read it a few times myself. Then I realized how excited she was about the experience and put it in my own voice and viola!
