Saturday April 18 RIDES

Ooooh, DH and I had a PERFECT short 16 mile ride through the countryside after breakfast today. It was sunny and in the 50'sF.....just gorgeous!!
Birds singing, daffodils blooming. A few good little hills were in there, it felt really good to get my muscles working again.
Spring came really late here but that is making me appreciate it even more.

I did a 22 mile ride, and although it was cold, it was wonderful! Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer, so we'll see what we can do.

Kalidurga, 7rider, 7's friend, and I did a hilly 25 mile ride through rural Montgomery County, MD. It was fantastic. A bit chilly at the beginning, but a perfect temp on a sunny day by the time we finished. 7 did a lot more (rode to the start, then back to her friend's house) but 25 was plenty for me on my second road ride of the year.

Yep, we did the hilly Possum Junction to Leavenworth ride. Last time, I did it at 13.5mph...today I did 15.6mph! Temp was 60 at the start and SUNNY!



We went through tiny communities with the names of FAR Away places:

St. Croix - BVI? nope, Indiana
Leavenworth - Kansas? nope, Indiana
English - UK? nope, Indiana
Possum Junction - Beverly HillbillieS - nope, Indiana!

We just came back from leading our first ride this year. The weather actually cooperated and was perfect; it looked dicey a couple of hours before we left, but it was partly cloudy and around 60 for the ride.
We had 8 people, including Kfergos and Mayanorange and her husband. Three people bailed at the last minute; they thought it was going to rain.
We did 30 miles of rolling hills, with a a bigger climb near the end. Everyone was nice and sociable, no flats, and no other issues. We had a nice stop at Great Brook Farm, where it looked like lots of mountain bikers were hitting the trails.

It is FINALLY spring here!

We rode the Salt Lake marathon bike blast which is great fun, except for the start which is crowded, dark, and when I should be sleeping.

We were loosely affiliated with a pair of DH's work mates who are only a few months into their cycling adventures. Afterward, at breakfast, they were both high as kites, wearing their numbers and ride medals, beamingly proud at having completed the ride.

That is a nice loop. I ended up with a bit over 55 miles for the day and some sunburn on my arms!

I had a really mediocre day. I repeated an MTB clinic that I already did last fall, this time with a different guide. I joined my workmate who just bought a MTB.

I felt chicken all day and did only about half the stuff required, and when we went over some really rooty trails I had it up to "here" and walked all.

I dunno. It was all a bit much and I guess I am more comfortable on the road.

We did 50 miles in an organized ride called "Rose Pedals" benefiting Cystic Fibrosis. Started out at a chilly 38 degrees. The sun came up and we rode into 20 mph winds, so we were cold for the first hour or so. Then the weather got mild, we shed some layers of clothes and it was glorious. As usual in Georgia, hill after hill after freakin' hill. I'm very slow on hills.. averaged 13mph. Generated 2 gallons of lactic acid Too bad I can't bottle it and sell it.. I'd be rich!

Slow, short ride here. My allergies have been really acting up this year (usually they are a non-issue). Beautiful day, though. And the wysteria is in full bloom, so there's a lovely fragrance in the air from time to time.

rode from Bellevue to Snoqualmie falls, 100km and 4933feet of climb (can i mix Kilometers and feet? no? okay) 62 miles with 4933 feet of climbing. ow I tell you there were some nasty hills we did today.
It started off quite cold, in the 30s but it warmed up to the low 60's towards the end of the day.
We went up and down and up and down. At Snoqualmie falls, we stopped and did the tourist thing, It is a breathtaking view. then we went up and down and up and down for another 30 odd miles before we were through.
It was exhilarating, but I could have done with less of the 12% grades.
our high speed for the day was 44.5 miles an hour.

That was an ugly old trailer in photo #2, rather surprising to see considering the neighborhood we were riding through
