Dh and I went on two rides. We rode around a lake which was very nice. Easy but nice. We saw lots birds, rabbits, squirrels and doggies. Very fun and it was incredibly beautiful. We didn't have enough so we then took a ride up a canyon. We saw a coyote. It was a very gradual climb. I didn't even realize we were climbing, but the way down was a blast! Whooohoooooo!

14 miles, 1100 feet of climbing, was very windy! Negated out all the Reeses Easter eggs...right?

It was a great ride until...

I came up on a hopefully not so bad crash. I had gone up from Ventura to Ojai and was now returning back down to Ventura, only to find my way blocked by an ambulance and firetruck. The medics had her on a backboard, braced, and had called in a helicopter to take her out.

Oh, I hate to see this. A couple had decided to ride on the path in this lovely weather and the wife crashed. I did not see a helmet anywhere. The husband was not wearing one either. She was rather disoriented and quite banged up; I hope she is ok.

It was amazing to see the chopper come down, just over the treetops, and land in an open area, to take her out.

My prayers go out to this unknown woman...

Re: It was a great ride until

I ride this bike path often and when I first read Tzvia's post and saw the photos my heart sank. This is not an easy location for the emergency vehicles to access. I too prayed for this unknown rider and her companion.

Just happened to see this letter to the editor in the local newspaper and wanted to share it with all who were concerned about the riders well being.

This link should take you to the letter.
