There was a pet pig at a campground I stayed at once. It belonged to the campground. Kids would kind of harass it, so one day when my husband had taken our kids to the waterpark the pig had a nice nap on my feet as I was enjoying a beer and a good book.

When I was visiting a friend in Zimbabwe (in 1995 when it was still a nice safe place) - there was a guy who had a "pet" wharthog. He lived out in the bush and had rescued the baby right after a hunter killed it's mom. He didn't treat it like a pet, but since he'd fed it, etc, it hung around and was perfectly comfortable around people.
(Don't get me wrong - negatives= some stupid human could kill it not knowing it was tame and, I was once walking outside near this guy's place, saw a wharthog, and walked on by it, only to find out it wasn't bumpy -I could have been killed).

As cute as that piglet is, I still think it would be irresponsible to get a piglet as a pet unless you are prepared to properly house and care for it as it gets bigger. (and it will get bigger).
Some breeds are smallish when grown, but they still require special accommodations and real commitment.
One should be willing to either provide a spacious and loving country home for it as it outgrows the baby stage, or else have it slaughtered for food once it's reached a certain size. (in which case it's not exactly a 'pet')
In either case, we need to be responsible when we take on an animal's life. Animals are not toys or accessories, and their welfare and needs should be thoroughly considered before acquiring them.![]()

I'm not an expert, but I'm going to guess that since they have that pig in their house and their house doesn't appear to be on a farm, then that pig is probably a pot bellied pig. They only get to be about the size of a small/medium dog (though they will weigh as much as a human!).
A farm pig? Over 1000 lbs...not something to consider a 'pet'.
I've heard amazing stories about pigs which is exactly why we will not raise them. In my mind, they are way too intelligent a being to be raised and slaughtered for meat. I couldn't do it. Hell, I'm having a hard enough time thinking about eventually probably having to off a chicken...and they are stupid creatures!![]()
