Well maybe I'm weird, but I can't even imagine giving a couple an anniversary gift no matter if they are my good friends. I always considered that the couple could certainly celebrate their anniversary with friends, but any gift giving I see as something personal between the couple, just loving or sentimental gifts to each other. Why not just write them a lovely card?
Way too much materialism in our society...especially considering how people are struggling these days in the current economy.

Other than my in laws, no one ever gave us gifts for our anniversary. Our 25th is coming in a few years. Isn't that silver - maybe I need to prep my friends for this.

Same here. Heck, I don't even get my parents anything--partly because their unhappy marriage made for my unhappy childhood, and I still can't bring myself to celebrate it (but that's another story). Still, at most I'll say "happy anniversary" or "congratulations" to someone if it comes up. Otherwise, I just don't feel like it's mine to celebrate. If I was really close to the couple, I certainly think a nice card would suffice.

We get cards from our in-laws but nothing more. I send one to my parents and my husband's brother but not his parents because they are re-married and frankly DH has no clue when or how long. I have given a gift for a fairly significant anniversary like a 50th when a party was thrown. I usually text message my only close friend that is married, don't want to disrupt their day too much.

I can do without the holier than thou attitude, I'm well aware of the economy.

I'm not giving them a gift, I'm asking for suggestions for her.

Yeah, I actually thought you must be looking for suggestions for her since I don't buy anything for anyone. Saddles are pretty personal but then again so is marriage. Or nice new shoes?

A GREAT leather jacket
A great pair of boots
A really nice belt
Something vintage - a leather reading chair?

Smurf, when I read your post, I understood it to mean that you were looking for ideas for a gift for your friend because it was her anniversary, and you were expected to give her a gift, which I, too, thought was totally weird.

Please don't get upset because some of us misunderstood your post. It wasn't clear, especially since it followed on the wedding gift question.

I thought you were sending them a gift, too, Snap. And I thought it was odd, too. The only anniversary I remember regularly other than my own is that of my son's. But anyway...

From your wording in the first post, obviously quite a few of us thought you were being expected to give them a gift, which we all thought was bit odd.
