I'm not a cat person either but you guys have the most bea-utiful cats!

Today Zeus and I took a visit to the humane society to look for a brother for him. We met a wonderul spitz mix which they have named buddy (2). Here's a website link:

He's got red hair like my son! I'm hesitant to get him without my son meeting him but he's not back unitl next week and I don't want to lose this older guy. He's a bit smaller than Zeus, so maybe 30 pounds which is perfect. I would have prefered the shepard!

Guess we'll see. I'll keep you posted....

Shiloh survived his first obedience class. He was terrified to go in the door, but he settled down after he got in and we sat down. I learned alot and he got to practice some of the things that he knows, or at least the things that I know he knows. There's probably alot more that he knows that I'll never know.

I know I have tried reasoning, arguing, pleading and plain sulking, but he seems terrified that 2 cats will "take over the house". I grew up with at times 8 cats (foster home), 2 dogs and 2 horses, so I just don't see the problem.

He's just not that much of an animal person, more like "wouldn't mind a cat around".

I don't have two cats and I'm more than content. My one kitty gets along perfectly with other cats, dogs, parrots, etc but it's more me who doesn't want another cat. If you do have one really social cat, as I do, be prepared for constant attention. I walk in my door, the cat jumps up from wherever she is and runs to greet me. Follows me around. Everywhere. She sits by me no matter where I am and if there's no room(ie I'm on a stool or a chair) she lays on the floor next to me. If I get up to go to the bathroom or to adjust the heat, she gets up and follows. It happens all day long without fail. So I guess in some respects, another cat might help reduce this constant attention but it's not worth it for me.

If I ever get a job that takes me out of the house for the majority of the day, I would consider getting her a companion because it might get boring around the house.

That's neat! Just wait until he gets groomed and he'll look like a million bucks. Hope he wins a one way ticket home to your family.

I just looked again--there's a german shepherd boy named Tank there. Oh, why did I look??

I am of the opinion that 8 is not enough. Here's my brood of kitties!

Mine are all in the house. Never stepped foot outside in their lives. They are now piled up on me and my DH as they do every night. I need a bigger lap.

We had 26 at one point when I was growing up. They were mostly farm cats, all related (we just didn't spay in the 70s, what can I say?). Only a couple were allowed in the house, including my Fudge, who was a city cat transplanted to the country along with me.

No wonder I'm so allergic to cats.

Sundial - Tank was my first choice but was spoken for. He is a skinny boy and needs some good food and loving. He even gave me a kiss! But since this dog is for my son and he wants a smaller dog than Zeus, I picked Buddy (I'm sure to be renamed).

Zen - Milo was my 2nd choice but was also spoken for.

I WON - they called and "Buddy" is all ours! I get to pick him up tomorrow and will take him right in to the vet for a checkup and then to get groomed. Pix to follow - ya-hoo!

Anyone have any advice on renaming a stray? Obviously he has a name we just don't know it. They humane society has only had him for a few days but a lady found him as a stray and kept him for 2 weeks before turning him in. She's the one who started calling him Buddy. He's a mature male but we don't know how old, so how long do you think it will take for him to learn a name (or me to come close to figuring out what his real name is?).

Dar- My experience is renaming them works. My baby Maggie was named HGT by the stupid breeder. I don't even know what they called for the first four years of her life her but after a few months she answered to Maggie. And sometimes Heidi but that is my fault they sound a lot alike. Heidi only answers to Heidi and princess.

My parents renamed their adult stray, Athena. She answers to it just fine. She was probably 2 when they got her 6 years ago so definitely had some name.

Obviously if you know what they were named it is easier but they eventually learn.
