    Haircoloring and Sweating

Since I'm only 42, one of my small concessions to vanity is coloring away the gray hair.

So I recolored last night like I do every 4-5 weeks. Problem is that I went for about a 25 mile ride today to work on my cliplessness and the sweat leached some of the color off my head and onto my bandana! It doesn't seem to be noticeable on my head and thank goodness I didn't have big brown streaks down my neck when I got home! That would have been a bit hard to explain on the trail - that? oh I sweat brown, don't you?

Anyway, this is the first time it's happened. I suspect that it's b/c it was a fresh color job, but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or if I just have Toxic Sweat??

What kind of haircolor do you use? I use permanent coloring and can't imagine that happening. However, with semi-permanent or temporary color, I can see that sweating before washing it (normally you just rinse after coloring until the next day or two later) might leach out some of the excess. Not sure what could be done about that other than a shampoo before any riding, at least during the sweaty times of the year.

I've found if I follow the directions exactly, and just rinse out the color, I have "color drift". On my pillow, on my towel.. So now when I do my hair, after I've rinsed out the color, I give it a quick shampoo. Hasn't seemed to do any harm to the color, and I don't get the leftovers.

I shampoo after the rinse as well

I get permanent color at the salon and I had that problem once. I went riding right after on a super hot day and a little color leached out. So I schedule my color job at least a day before I plan to ride!

Yet another vote for shampoo after you rinse, _then_ put in the conditioner that comes with the kit. But you're_still_ not safe until after a couple washings.

I was in a triathlon a week ago, and on the bike leg, I _thought_ what was dripping from my bangs was a little dark for saltwater...I was hoping I wouldn't have hair color streaks going down my back to add to the rest of my wonderful look...

I can imagine this happening quite easily with a home-job dye. Personally, I pay shedloads to have my hair highlighted because I've got greys at 25. At this rate it's odds on I'll have a big white streak at the front by the time I'm 30...

I just can't afford $60 every six-eight weeks. $5 is much more manageable!

Neither can I - I tend to wait 10-12 weeks.

I'm a "faux" redhead, so I have experienced the post-color sweat mess. Reds seem to leech more than any other shade (I've done 'em all!!!). Usually, I'll wear a dark colored jersey/helmet wickie beanie the day after I have it colored. Usually, I'm fine after I shampoo for the first time after I leave the salon.

Maybe it was because I've been following the directions exactly and NOT shampooing directly after. Trying to remember if I've ever ridden immediately next morning post-color - I'm thinking maybe not, which is why this hasn't happened before.

I was just glad it didn't stain my jersey - at least I "think" it didn't

Anyway - I'm very relieved that I'm not the only dark-sweatter here
