At 17.15lbs, 52.5cm, I welcomed Tiburon 'Ho’o Mano' Carter into my happy bike family today.

After some soul searching I decided to rearrange my "toy box" a little bit to help finance him. Alas, I cannot have ALL the toys. Who knew? I also discovered that I can eat Spaghetti'os Western more nights in a row than I thought I could (2 cans Spaghetti'os, 1 can drained black beans, 1tbs chili powder, cheese and green onions, mmm). I survived a long while without beer, that was brutal.

So I brought his handsomest home and I still cannot believe this gorgeous machine is mine. I stared at him in the rear view mirror of truck the whole way. Since I have a bed rail fork mount all I could do was stare at his lovely, lovey rear end. Those chain stays, mmmm. Purdy tubing is what made me fall in love with BMC but this is unheard of.

Anyway, he rides like a total dream. Just the right blend of stiff and compliant. I had a chance to take him out for a 10 mile spin before I committed to him and yowza he is catty and quick.

Today I just decided to get pictures while he was still clean. I installed water bottle cages, my bag, mini pump, part of my cat eye until I realized I need a special mount for the fork. ARGH! So in a panic I call the Blue P because it was 7:30 and no one else is open. "Do you have an aero fork mount for Cat Eye sensors?" -Huuuuh? Ummm let me check (pretend looking sounds) Uuuuuuh no, but uh, Cat Eye has all their small parts online. Yes, aware of that, need it now, need to know I am Fuuuuuh-lyyyyiiiiing on the new ride.

So yeah he's all 105, compact with American Classic Victory wheels. He's lugged carbon and where he's black it's raw carbon. Hotness. Okay, more bike pr0n. I feel bad, he's so young and I'm already making him pose for pr0n.

Lugs are theme with me, it appears.

Artificially sweetened with high-modulus carbon fiber.

    He is contemplative.

He sleeps in the bedroom. Do I read him bedtime stories from VeloNews? Make up stories with his name in them? "Once upon a time there was a handsome bike named Tiburon. He was the fastest bike in crits across the land. And one day on a training ride, faithful steed that he was, he brought the princess to her one true love and they lived happily ever after with a garage full of blingy bikes, two golden retrievers, an Australian shepherd, and a terrier mutt." Eh hem.

So as it stands I composing the perfect playlist on my MP3 player and deciding on the perfect route for our big day tomorrow (yeah I got it off, my job rocks that hard). I didn't wanna rush into riding tonight because like a 17 year old girl on the night of her prom I want our first time together to be special. I did take my first ceremonial lap around the table at the office, that was awh-ha-some!

Obviously I need to get some pedals that aren't ghetto, but priority number one was getting him paid for. In the mean time it keeps me humble, reminds me where I came from and all that. Eventually he'll have some pretty artsy bottle cages, speedplays and a purdy Prologo Choice Dea in Pop Titanium, but all good things in due time or whatever.

Aaaaaagggghhh!!!! Buckets of carbon candy all for meeee!!! Yes, I have given him kisses. Sometimes, without thinking I reach over and pet him.

beautiful bike, and I loved your narrative (Western Spaghetti-O's? This sounds like something that could be handled on a grad-student budget...)!

I love the fifth picture from the top.. It's like something out of a 70's after schools special.

You just need Kristy McNicol and pipe in some Partridge Fam and you'll be rawkin'!

    Nice ride!
I can do five more miles.
