Utah store has bone to pick with shoplifting dog

MURRAY, Utah (AP) — A thief remains at large after pulling off a daring heist — in the pet food aisle.

Surveillance video at a supermarket in this Salt Lake City suburb caught a dog shoplifting, KSL-TV reported Wednesday.

The video showed the dog walking in the front door of Smith's Food & Drug in Murray, and heading straight to Aisle 16, the pet food aisle, where it grabbed a bone worth $2.79.

The thief wasn't even perturbed by a face-to-face confrontation with store manager Roger Adamson.

"I looked at him. I said 'Drop it!'" Adamson said. "He looked at me, and I looked at him, and he ran for the door and away he went, right out the front door."

    That's funny.....

It's especially funny to me today as I went to the 50% off day after Christmas sales today and picked up lots of gifts for next year. I didn't have time to put anything away, so I put all of the sacks in the basement laundry room.

Right before I read this post I walked into the living room to find my dog with a toy that she "stole" from one of the sacks downstairs. It was meant for her, but not until next Christmas. I called her a thief, patted her head, and sat down at the computer................

Awesome! Chloe has shoplifted a couple of times, I've managed to catch her and pay for the items after the fact...

Ickey used to go shopping with us at the pet store. That was all "legal" and okay. Picking out her own treats was okay. Slobbering all over them and biting through the bar code before they'd been scanned... not so much.

Exactly! I'd be paying for Chloe's grooming and new toy for being a good dog, and she'd down on the floor scarfing down stolen dog cookies! "Um, yeah, you want to add the three biscuits she's just inhaled to my bill....."

    Too funny.

Christmas Eve my son put a plate with a cookie for Santa and carrots for the reindeer on the coffee table in front of the tree. After he went to sleep, I ate the cookie and went upstairs to get his presents, leaving Zeus sitting on the couch.

When I came down a minute later with the gifts, the plate was cleaned off and Zeus was looking a bit sheepish.....I laughed so hard I didn't have the heart to scold him! That's the first time he's eaten off anyone's plate. Gee, you'd think I was starving the poor guy!

That store is just a ways south of Bubba's mum's house. Wow, did the store get some great advertising out of that stunt. I think I saw the video that night about 8 times, and then the next day, and then . . .
