+1 on running shoes and +1 on buying at a local shop that specializes in running. When you first get into running it's important to have a professional shoe fit, ideally at a place that can put you on a treadmill and see you run in the shoes. Sound familiar? Getting going in running is not that different from getting going in cycling.
