Sorry AA, I disagree. I would NOT buy running shoes on line. I would go to a running shoe store (Just like I would not buy a bike without a professional selling to me). Running is HARD on the lower body. If you are serious about it, go get a fit and yes, I spend up to $100 on my shoes. Once you know what works, you can then look for bargins on line.

And since it is B-day $$, it SHOULD be spent! On something you want.

I am a push over for nice jerseys.....a gal has to look good on a bike!

I probably got lucky on my first pair and now I stick with stuff like them. Of course my one trip to Runtex (expensive running only store) pointed me to the shoes I already was wearing. I haven't had injuries or blister issues (knock on wood). I did have tendonitis in my knee but I injured it many moons ago bowling and it was a flare up of that.

Thanks for the input! I used to run, untill a heel fracture sent me cycling. I think I will invest in new running shoes, to avid further incident. If there's casharoonie left over, maybe cute socks for both sports

+1 on running shoes and +1 on buying at a local shop that specializes in running. When you first get into running it's important to have a professional shoe fit, ideally at a place that can put you on a treadmill and see you run in the shoes. Sound familiar? Getting going in running is not that different from getting going in cycling. And like in cycling, developing a relationship with a good running shop will be a huge help in the long run (no pun intended). Support your local LRS!

    Hi tofu,

Given some thought to your question. Only advice I can give you is, if you had made that $100 instead of given to you as a gift, what would you do with it? How many hours of work is that after taxes?

If you do spend it spend it wisely. Or may be start a saving account if you don't have one or give it a bit of boost if you already have one.

    Wow, that's excellent advice.

I also like Grits' suggestion of waiting until after Christmas to catch sales.

For running shoes, runningwarehouse.com has excellent prices, a nice selection, free shipping & a good return policy. Like Zappos except cheap (and better running-specific information). I buy running shoes online because I can't find what I like locally, ever (except for nasty winter conditions, when I wear trail shoes, which I do buy locally, I wear lightweight racing flats for training, and apparently that's a low demand item because nobody carries them). I have been running long enough that I have a pretty good idea of what I need in a shoe, though, and I can usually tell immediately when I try a shoe on if it's going to work for me or not, so I can get by with shopping online if the merchant has an easy return policy.

I will say a food processor isn't worht it and I would buy an inexpensive one. I have a Black and Decker my mom bought me because I HAD TO HAVE ONE. I have used it 3 times, to make crust for cheesecake. A houseguest used it once for making salsa. We have owned it since 2005. Luckily my mom bought it on black Friday that year and got it for about $20.
