Goodness gracious... I feel that this is an appropriate moment to share my Saddle Tilting Experience with someone:
This summer I particiapted in my first ever 70.3 ironman triathlon, and being a rather inexperienced cyclist, I was anticipating the bike leg only partly with enthusiasm. I had aero bars on my road bike, and the saddle titled somewhat forwards. The rounds were about 18k (12 miles?), and riding downhill towards the turning point and feeding area I suddenly heard a small "clank" and I sort of "fell" backwards. Fortunately I was holding the handlebar rather than the aerobars, otherwise I would've greeted the tarmac with a nice headbutt. It turned out that the whole saddle had come loose, tilting backwards. Technical assistance is not allowed and it turned out that my tool wasn't really long enough to unscrew it and sort it out properly, and I didn't want to spend time stopping by my car to get a new tool. I managed to fasten it enough for it to be stable, but I ended up riding the last 72k with a saddle tilted backwards. I had to spend the rest of the day with a saddle digging into my soft bits, and eventually it hurt so badly that I had to really pull myself down and forwards in order to still lie down in the aerobars. I don't normally look forward to the running leg of a triathlon, but this time I couldn't wait to liberate my soft bits and stretch my back!
Think orange. Earn success.
