I have seen compression socks in the sock section at Kmart. They basically looked like dress socks, but were compression. They probably had sports ones as well.

If you know anyone that's had surgery or a long hospitalization lately and they're the sort that takes everything in the hospital room home, they probably have a couple sets of compression stockings that they have no idea what to do with, but took home 'cause they cost their insurance company a couple hundred dollars or something insane.

I didn't have socks in the hospital, but I did have these nifty things that wrapped around my lower leg. They were connected to an air pump, it was like having a constant leg massage.

They don't necessarily have to be the packrat type. My mom had to wear hers for two or three weeks after she was discharged from the hospital.
