First snow ride of the season - w00t!

So I was reminded yesterday it was time for my winter avatar, and bing! today I earned it. After weeks of sunny golden autumn weather I woke up to -3C (27 F), a dusting of snow on the ground and a light snowfall swirling everywhere. Ok, time for my old faithful mtb with the studs on. Oooh, she is such a sweetie. Steady as a rock and such a comfy ride. Time for PI Amfib tights, winter shoes and PI lobster gloves. And I even remembered to add a pair of wool "granny panties" between the shorts and the tights, so no cold butt.

Sure, I was slower than sludge getting to work, but it is a such a joy to wheel smoothly and silently down a completely white hill, while the cars struggle in their massive line-up on the road 10 ft away. I'd forgotten that. I'd also forgotten how much snow stings around my eyes. Today I could've used some goggles. Stopped halfway and hiked my Buff up to avatar-position.

Got to work psyched up on endorphins, with time to spare since I wimped out and took the short way in, did a little weight training and went and sat in the brand new SAUNA we have here. At my desk now, limp as a noodle, drinking tea and looking out at the snowflurries. There is no better way to start the day
Winter riding is much less about badassery and much more about bundle-uppery. - malkin

I love commuting to work on bike. It just feels so good! I wimp out when there is ice/snow on the ground. My commuter bike isn't set up for that type of riding, and I can't seem to find the right glove for under 30F. I seem to be slower than sludge on most rides these days, but I sure do feel 'a high' on most commutes.

I love snow commutes! I don't get them down here, but when I lived farther north I, too, had a winter MTB with studded tires. It was so much fun, and the looks on the drivers faces as I whizzed by their silly traffic jams were priceless!

I hear New York state got a bit of the white stuff yesterday! Bleeker--are you out in it?

Wow, I don't even like to ride when it's in the 40s. You guys are hard core! I'm very impressed.

Where we are (near Albany, not that far north) we got some pretty flurries late yesterday afternoon, and got about a half inch of snow overnight....but it's all melted now because it's been about 35-40F degrees and windy.
I went for a brisk 5 mile walk this morning in the cold wind- that was fun!
While walking through the town I saw some cars with about 3" of snow on them...people driving in from the nearby hill towns.

Got my major wool artillery, got my heavy hiking boots, got my snowshoes. I'm ready for any snow that comes along- hope it's more than the cheesy amount we got last year!

I agree with Bleeker, the snow fall last year was not that great in our neck of the woods. I so want more snow this year.
Yesterday We had slush on the roads, and a good 1 inch or so on cars, but a wet covering on the ground. I bundled up and drove to town, where I looked like an eskimo compared to the townies...The wind was bad, And my dad stopped to see if I was gonna ride my bike or not...isn't he funny?
