    FS: Serfas travel case

I have a Serfas case that I've used successfully since 2005. It does great on the airlines and holds my bicycle perfectly. I'm selling it because I have a Bike Friday that will be delivered to me by the end of the month and my husband informed me that I had to sell it. I paid over $300 for it. I am selling it for $175. It has wheels and a strap for easily negotiating it through airports.

    Hi,
is this the full size case that fits a regular road bike - or the small one that only fits breakaway bicycles?
    Thank you.

The Bike Friday is a Pocket Rocket. I wanted the Petite Pro Pocket Rocket, but the cost was sky high. It's going to be green; I wanted that bright yellow, but again I didn't want to pay the extra $$. I'm getting pretty excited about it. It's really neat how they can build them to fit you just like the bike you have. I am fortunate that I could go to Eugene with my bicycle and have them take all the measurements. When I rode one they had there, I felt like I was on Doody herself. And I was still able to go through my lbs. Even though they aren't dealers, Bike Friday will work through them. I think that's a really good thing.

As for the Serfas case, it holds a regular road bike. My Trek Pilot has a 48 cm frame. I have to remove the handlebars, but I don't have to undo the cables. The wheels, pedals, and saddle have to come off, and the skewers need to be removed from the wheels. But everything fits right inside with 3 sheets of foam in between. I still have the instructions on packing the case. A frame that's considerably larger would probably need to have the handle bars removed and the cables undone. It is supposed to hold any size frame--within reason. I don't think Yao Ming's bike will fit.

The first time I used it, it took me a long time to get Doody all undone and into the case, and I had some help. I also took it to a bike shop to re-assemble after the 1st time. But after that I jumped in and did it--no problem, and I've gotten faster. I put all the loose items (pedals, etc.) in Ziplocks and I use twist ties to attach them to the frame to keep them in place. I also packed my pedal wrench. I could do everything else with one of those little 3-pronged allen wrench tools.

The case has 4 heavy duty clasps that can be locked, but TSA doesn't want that. The clasps can't come undone on their own. There are also tension straps inside for keeping the frame in one position. My road bike came from S MISS to OR via UPS in it just fine, and that was regular ground and took a week.

I wouldn't give it up except that my husband has given me the word. I wanted to cry when I had to sell my sweet Trek hybrid. But no matter what, I won't get rid of my Gertrude--my 57 Chevy green Schwinn 5 speed that lives at our store. I bought her in 1973, and then she was an ugly brown. She proudly sports the Nashbar basket that Lisa gave away last year. I digress!
