Melissa - you had me howling on your Tour di Stupid!! Probably because I've done similar things with similar interesting thought processes all while wonder WTF I go myself into!! If you decide to do a repeat of TDS on a cooler day, and before your mom calls, let me know. I may join you!

I have some really great ideas now. Thanks! I'm looking forward to planning my rides for next year.

What are the ones you're doing to finish out this year? I would like to get in one century this year. I've done 60 miles and can get in a 75/80 miler so I'm thinking it would be a good finishing point. If not a supported one, I'll probably just do one to do one.

MP, don't worry, I'm sure you'll get to witness a few Son of Stupid rides from me next year.

Absolutely! We can see if the Forrest Gump quote really is true: "Stupid is as stupid does."

Hey, maybe we can do Tour di Stupid before the end of the year? I think the whole route may be ~ 120 miles, though.
I'll get back on the bike soon, I promise!

Lightbulb How about a Tour di Stupid Lite?

If you want to do a shorter version of the TdS, you could probably start from the Fremont BART station and end at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART, then take BART back to Fremont.

I mapped it out on Bikely:
    http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...di-Stupid-Lite

About 98* miles and roughly 7200 ft of climbing. (*Ed to add: Oops, make that 96 miles)

    As Mel would say, C'MON!!!

Oh, sure, I'll give it a try. Gulp. I mean - yeah - sounds like a blast!
My unavailable dates are 10/25 and 11/8.
Maybe try for 11/7? Farther out?

Jo, brilliant idea on the BART stations!

I'm in! I'm actually pretty free now except next Sunday (the 19th). Of course that can change, but if we decide on a date, I'll lock it in!

I'll hang out with the back of the pack. I'm not a super fast climber.

I'm racing 11/1 and I've targeted 11/8 as my 200 K day. I like to do them as early in the month as I can. We're traveling at Thanksgiving so I have fewer weekends available. But thanks for thinking of me.

I have decided to have another crack at DMD though in 2009. In 2006 my back was what made me quit. My core has gotten a lot stronger since then...

Didn't get to do it this year, but really enjoyed the Konocti Challenge (around Clearlake) last year. It's a pretty and well-supported ride.
