Do you have the single or double? I am think since I need one for me and one for DH we will go single and it will be a great improvement? Big concern is super visibility for cars. $200 is a bit steep but at least if we get them from REI we have the awesome return guarantee and we get a dividend for next year.

Looks like Performance and some internet places are cheaper but Performance's customer service stinks.

I have the single and it is bright enough for my uses - though, as I live and commute in the city, I am generally in pretty well lit areas even after dark. I do go through a park with no street lights I've never had any problems. It's a lot brighter than our old one that was not LED. I also like that the light is very white - not blue like the early LED lgihts. The blue ones make every thing look very flat - it really messes with your depth perception.

For city riding I don't actually like the really bright lights (like HID lights) - they may be good for trail riding at night, but they blind other riders and drivers on the road....

I have the single and it's bright! This year I'm going to splurge on a helmet light. Check with your LBS and see if they carry NiteRider. If not, REI offers excellent customer service and shipping.

I have the single MiNewt and a lot of my commute's on a very dark portion of the local MUT--I am very satisified with the amount of light it provides.

Single Mi-newt here (first-generation), and very happy with it. The first-gens were not as bright as the new MiNewt.X2. The MiNewt.X2 packs an incredible amount of light into a very small package.

Also, last time I checked (several weeks ago), QBP and Seattle Bike Supply both distributed NiteRider products, so any LBS with a QBP or SBS account should be able to order them for you.

I've got the X2 - we had the old halogen version, but it suddenly stopped working after having only been used a few times. Fortunately it was purchased at REI and not only do they have an incredible return policy, they were aware of a problem with the model that we had.

My hubby was totally irritated when I came home with a new light instead of getting his old one fixed (ahem who was the only person in the house bike commuting at the time.....), until he used it He's since "forgiven" me and bought another one for himself.

REI is having a 20% sale on one item. You just have to be a member, though.

As for me, I use a flashlight gripped in my teeth.
Thanks TE! You pushed me half way over!

I have the MiNewt, but it's on my flat bar commuter. It worked like a charm riding on very dark country roads (along with a headlamp on my helmet). My husband tested it out on his road bike, so it can be put on those (very oddly shaped) bars.
