Dear project manager,
Stop thinking you have to convince me that the Very Bad Idea put forth by your marketing squad is something other than a Very Bad Idea. Please remember that in the context of your project world, I am a mercenary. You don't have to get my buy-in to proceed with tanking your branding strategy.
The quality of *my* product--you know, that thing you're paying me to produce for you--is the same either way...and so is the amount for which you'll be invoiced. In fact, given the way you guys have managed to balloon this thing out from one large project into about thirty small and medium sized projects, means that you'll probably be invoiced for more than you would have if we had gone forward with the other concept. (more business owners = more people to talk to = more of my time spent in endless meetings + more time sifting through the noise to find the actual important stuff)
Also, just because I'm the only one pointing out that this is a Very Bad Idea, it does not mean that I am the only one who thinks so. It just means I'm the only one willing to say it out loud when People Who Make Decisions are in the room. In fact, if you actually talked to your team about anything other than Gantt charts, you would find out that no one is on board with this plan. That's right. Not a single person in analysis, design, dev, or even program management thinks this is the right direction. You should really be more worried about them...they actually work for your company.
As for me. I'm going back to working on my design collaboration games, and drawing comics. If you're going to give me work that I don't really care about, then I'm at least going to make it interesting for myself. (And turn it into something I can write/speak about for profit later.)
Regards,
Dex
