    Freshly Squeezed

It was a scorcher yesterday in Delaware. I logged my lovely ten miles though I was dragging in the heat. I cut through a very large subdivision to avoid the traffic heat and noise and dreamed of tall glasses of freeshly squeezed lemonade. But those days are gone.....kids are glued to TV's and computers and not lemonade stands. I grumbled at the loss of their innocent lemonade stands.....

And then there it was.....obviously a mirage in the distance....

They were the most charming of young ladies. Future TE'ers saving up their lemonade money for a custom titanium bike.

I have a very strict rule that if I see kids running a lemonade stand, I have to stop and buy some! I had one kid this summer try "add-on marketing" (or whatever it's called)--after stopping to buy lemonade, he tried to also sell me some flowers from his mom's garden!

    What a great end-of-the-day surprise!

Y'know, I really need to start carrying my camera on rides and commutes.....

Ditto that, I keep seeing cool stuff (a wee one of maybe five pedaling along after her dad coming home from grocery shopping...).

Very neat story Pardes, thanks so much for sharing!

    Sweet!
We have a neighbor who would often set up "shop" at the end of her driveway....selling lemonade, ice slushies (more ice than anything ), cookies, whatever she talked her mom into helping her with that day.'
DH and I always were her best customers.
Strangely, tho', she hasn't been out at all this summer.

    Smile Nice Treat!

I sure could have used some fresh lemonade on my long ride (20 miles) last Sunday - all I had was Aquafina and semi-cool Gatorade! My neighbors girls run a lemonade stand every now and then - just not along my bike trail on the way home - lucky you! And I can certainly relate to the heat issue - we are training in the good old Florida summertime - trying to get in shape for the Florida MS150 next May. We have three shorter event rides coming up in Oct. Nov. and Dec., but we wanted to train in the hotter weather since the MS will be held in May again next year in South Florida. Wish us luck. Now I will be thinking about lemonade next Sunday - yummm!

I thought of you Pardes today as I was passing by a goup of young girls setting up an iced tea/lemonaid stand. I turned around and went back to purchase tea vs. going to the convenient store up the road to get more drink for the remainder of the ride. The girls were charming. Mom sat up on the porch. I purchased 2 iced teas for my bottle and 2 cookies (1 PB and the other a Cho.chip). The young girls were full of questions..first was- "where are the rest of your friends?" explained I was by myself..and they really came out of their shell, they touched the bike, asked all the questions and mom sat up on the porch smiling as she talked on her cell phone. The cookies were great, almost wished I would've purchased extra and went back later. I can not complain that the tea jug wasn't clean, my tea tasted just like soap. I managed-barely- to drink it for the remainder of my journey. But the girls were priceless.

    Lady Astor's Caterpillar

ShellyJ, my lemonade was a bit weak, but like you I drank it with relish just to see the girl's expressions of success.

You made a very positive impact on those girls and they won't forget you or your positive influence.

BTW, did you hear about Lady Astor's dinner guest who, rather than embarass Lady Astor, rolled up a caterpillar in a lettuce leave that was on the salad plate and ate it. I believe Lady Astor, in gratitude bequeathed the guest a lot of money in her will.

Sometimes it's worth it to drink soapy tea. And not for the money.

The girls were adorable. And yes, they seemed to have fun with the bike (the whole time I'm thinking to myself "maybe these girls will be future cyclists") I didn't hear about the story of Lady Astor. I would think the caterpiller would be full of protein, at least that what the survivor guy on discovery would say...can't think of his name. I had to tell my mom of the adorable girls and their stand, my mom got a kick out of hearing about it!
