Day 2!
Tonight was track training. Round and round and round and round.... We did a 1 mile timed walk -- I am at 17 minutes, which would translate to a little bit over 4 hours for the 1/2 marathon. Hmmm...I can live with that.
Might have an issue with my new shoes, one heel was feeling kinda tweaked. I'll try different socks on Saturday's walk, maybe a little bit of padding? Hmmm. If it's still bothering me, I'll go back to the store and see what they recommend. I also got my new waist pack, holds a bottle of water and has a pocket for "stuff".
Fund raising news! I'm within sight of $1000! Yay!![]()

Everyone Deserves a Lifetime
What size tootsies you have? I'll run down to the FootZone and see if they have any Balega Hidden Comfort socks and send you a pair.
When I was in Boot Camp this winter I bought a pair. Became my favorite socks. Soft, just the right amount of cush and no freakin' toe seam.

Snap, great job! And, you will not take 4 hours for your half. Your per minute mile time will come down.
Back in May I took a speed walking clinic that taught me how to walk fast! I can walk a 11 minute mile when I'm working it, or a 13 minute mile if I'm cruising.
With proper technique, and practice, you can get your time down. Have faith!
Here is a resource to check out on speed walking:

If you look at the links at the top, it gives step-by-step instructions on how to speed walk.
Good luck! You can do it!
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside thoroughly used-up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!!"
Yay! Track workouts are kind of fun. In a weird way.
Good job on the fundraising!
If I recall correctly, when I did Nike, the marathon course was the same as the half until GG Park where the half folks were basically done and we had to keep going. Do you know if that's the same? I could look on line of course....![]()

sk - I'm a size 7. What are these magical socks you speak of?
mp - I think the course is the same, we start in Union Square, head out to Embarcadero, travel 'round to the Great Highway and end at GG Park. So tell me how many hills we hit....
I'll check out the links KSH, thanks!
jvm - I'm doing the Nike Women's Marathon - walking the 1/2 on October 19.

While GG Park is rolly, there's really only one sustained "hill" and that's from the end of Crissy Field by Ft. Point up to - crud! - you know, the fancy neighborhood where Robin Williams lives - Seadrift? Something like that. Seacliff?? I drive through it every day I have to get Em from the zoo and now I am blanking. Why am I drawing such a blank? Long day.
Anyway, by the time you get to that hill you will be happy to have something other than dead flat road - really. At least I was. And I largely walked my last marathon. Having a hill works some different muscles at a really good point in this course. You're a good 5 - 7 miles into it by that point. And that's probably a mile of climb, maybe less. Then the rest is rolly.
