Those babies are just darling! Did you trap them? Were they orphaned? Thank you for taking them in.

How adorable! Are you going to be able to give them up when it's time for them to go?

my partner and I work with a rescue group. We are reserved to care for the newborn (few days old). It takes far more effort to care for them than the older kittens and cats. Occasionally, we have taken care of newborns from other rescue group as well. We've cared for kittens with umbilical cord still attached and eyes closed. They were probably the hardest to care, keeping track of body temperature around the clock (kept a hot water bottle at temp), weigh every 4 to 6 hours, feeding and logging the amount of kitten formula they drank, to getting them to poop/pee... And yes they all survived to be a happy spoiled kitties. knock on wood.

These five kittens were picked up from a ferral colony. The group members have been trying to capture the mama cat, but the woman who lives nearby and one who called us is bit whacky (complains...) but gets in our way of trapping (keeps feeding the colony cause they look hungry). One of the trapper says she think she knows which cat is the mama and she is already pregnant again . We were hoping to trap, spay, and release the mama. We are still trying to trap the mama cat so that she can have the next litter of kittens then off to spay after she finishes nursing the new liter.

The kittens will be tested next week for FelV/FIV. And if they do not have any other health issues, they will be put up for adoption after they are spay/neutured. It's also the California law. Minimum weight of two pounds. We usually wait till they are closer to three pounds.

And yes its really hard to let them go but its better for them. The ones we have kept have some medical issues. Two kittens last year have cat herpes and were in ICU for a week. Their temperature was 104 for extended period but they seemed to have survived without any permanent injury. And because of the herpes, which can flare up, we decided to keep them. We keep a close eye on both of them.

Another cat we kept is from two years ago. He has an auto-immune problem where his white blood cell just pools in one location for no real reason and starts attacking the site, usually as a linear line down the back two legs on the back side and on occasion, his lip/mouth. We can give steroid shot but there is a chance that the treatment can cause diabetes. He has had two bouts of this in last year. We also keep a close eye on him.

All the other fosters have found new homes. With the exception of last two years, we really have not had any dibilitating medical issues with our kittens. And I think these guys are pretty much in clear.

When we can get a better picture, I will post more.
Thank you for enjoying the pictures.

I want a kitty. I had one as a kid. I woke up one morning and kitty was gone. My mother got rid of him without letting me say goodbye.

You kitties are adorable. They are just the right size. Playful and energetic.

Smilingcat, there's a special place in heaven for you and people like you. Thank you for caring for these tiny kitties.
