    Gleukos all-natural sports drink

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Anyone else tried this? We ran out of Cytomax and picked up a few envelopes. It's actually higher in potassium than sodium! Bubba in particular does better with higher potassium intake.

Very simple ingredient list and a very light taste. Bubba felt great during his ride yesterday.

Is it my browser, or does their website suck? None of the links work...

So, what's it taste like? Or is it tasteless? Now that I'm "training" I get to start trying new stuff.

The taste is very, very light and refreshing. Bubba used the orange yesterday. It was only a very light orange color, so no artificial colors. The entire ride was windy and portions were hot enough that he could have been cramping.

I used the Punch flavor today. I didn't get to taste it unadorned though. The Punch is absolutely clear, no color, and because I like to know which bottle has the goo in it, he added a dash of Crystal Lite lemonade. Nothing like using your accidentally using your energy drink to wash a bug of of your eye. Even with the two mixed together, the flavor was pretty light. So far, I'm a convert. Calories are the same as Cytomax - 140 per 16 ounces.

I found this article interesting. Just supports why straight table salt doesn't really do much for most people.

Snap, the links all worked for me! It says that Joe's (as in G.I. Joe's) is a dealer.

Snap, just in case the links still don't work for you the site says you can find it at Safeway, Fred Meyer, Whole Foods, Walgreens, Albertsons, Safeways, IGA, 7-11, AM-PM, Chevrons, etc.

Apparently, the liquid forms is in a soft pouch which would be really cool for times when I want to slip an extra bladder of water in my back pocket.

I've been doing some googling of reviews and a lot of folks are saying they like it far better than Gatorade for the lack of sugary sweetness. Since it's being sold through all those chains it should be easy to find during many rides.

I'm living in bizzaro world, now everything works.

I'm going to add this to my taste testing. My drug of choice has been Cliff Shot Electrolyte Cran-Raspberry

I'm suspicious of that new-fangled "all natural" stuff.

    Gleukos

Gleukos is made (or at least they have their corporate HQ) right here in Portland, OR, so it's pretty readily available.

I've tried it, and I like it for medium-distance rides. Note that "medium" is relative. Say - 4 to 8 hours. I've not tried it beyond that, no particular reason why not, though the sodium content is kinda low for me without added electrolytes.

It's not that sweet (dextrose/glucose is about 1/2 as sweet-tasting as sucrose/table sugar), and it is light-tasting, which helps fight flavor fatigue.

Everyone - including Gleukos - wants to show you a fascinating chart showing how much longer a single feeding of their super-special carbohydrate stays in your system than someone else's...which is great information if you intend to drink it once, then drive yourself until you bonk. Thankfully, that's not how most people approach cycling nutrition. If you keep on drinking ANY carb/electrolyte solution steadily over time, it will maintain your blood sugar without a "crash". The key is finding one that you're willing and able to drink for a longer period of time. For some of us, that might be Gleukos.

Eh, I could(n't) care less about GD marketing hype. All my husband I really care about is getting a steady source of potassium without having to constantly pop extra pills, less sweet taste and sugar that we can digest. If I drink just "ANY carb/electrolyte solution steadily over time" I will get sick. Gatorade is absolutely noxious both from a taste perspective but also digestive. It really nauseates me. Unfortunately, it is frequently the only choice when stopping at a grocery or corner market during a long ride. It looks like Gleukos may become more readily accessible at these markets.

jobob, ask MP for some of those Pinesol Pops. You should like those.

I am a big fan of this stuff. Love it mostly because it isn't overly sweet and I can pack several packets in my seat bag without any problem. It dissolves very easily with just a few shakes of the water bottle. Since it isn't too sweet, it doesn't get totally nasty when it gets warm like gatorade. Another plus is our local QFC carries it so I don't have to go out of my way to buy it. I used it on the one day double century ride we did in July which was very hot and it worked really well. I do take extra electrolyte tablets with it though.

I'm going to have to give it a try, I'm prone to calf cramps so the extra potassium sounds good.

What stores have you guys found this at? I tried our giant whole foods the other day and they didn't have it. I tend to be low-ish potassium, so it sounds like a good thing for me to try.

I really, really like Gleukos. Its light and works well for me on long rides, so I went out to stock up for our double century this weekend and cannot find it anywhere. I have either called or went to all the local retailers listed on their site and they all say they used to carry it, but don't anymore. So I emailed the company in desperation and have heard nothing back from them. Just wondering if they are even still in business. Has anyone bought this lately and if so, where. Also looking for alternative suggestions since I don't think I am going to find it in time.
