And think of the purchase this way -- you're helping our faltering economy. You bought the bike because you love America and were doing your patriotic duty.
WOW! You are right - what better way to support this great nation? I feel all choked up now.....(a single tear trickles slowly down Skierchickie's cheek, her lower lip trembling) (Sniff, sniff). I was going to save that darn $600 economic stimulus money (DH already used his half on a mountain bike), but now it's gone, gone, gone. Along with a bunch of it's little $$ friends.

By the way, she is even more beautiful in person than in that picture. The metallic blue is just so gorgeous. It startles me whenever I go into the garage.

I've never named a bike (I've tried, but can never come up with anything - I have enough trouble naming pets). This one is just crying for a name. I slipped and called her Bikey-poo the other day, and she nearly threw me off. I was thinking something powerful yet feminine - all I can come up with is Jamie, because I wanted nothing more as a kid than to BE the Bionic Woman (you know, run faster, jump higher, throw people across rooms...). However, Jamie isn't all that inspiring. Like Xena, Warrior Princess, or something like that. That is just too over the top. Any ideas, oh creative TE friends?

patriotic music plays in the background, maybe America the Beautiful

    From my locals website
"Iowa Congressman's Bill Urges Spending Stimulus Checks on U.S. Goods

At the urging of a freshman representative, Iowa Democrat Bruce Braley, the U.S. House has overwhelmingly passed a bill that urges taxpayers to spend their stimulus checks on American products and services.

"If the millions of American families receiving tax rebates from the stimulus spend their checks on American-made goods and services, the effect of the stimulus will be magnified," Braley said. "Buying American will infuse an additional $10 billion into the American economy and will help narrow our growing trade deficit."

Braley told CWA that, "I appreciate the support of the Communications Workers to push for the passage of this resolution. The men and women of the labor movement have known for a long time that buying American supports American jobs."

Thank you for doing your patriotic duty!!

Um, er, uh, I think the sticker on the bike says "Made in Taiwan" (where is the "I'm ashamed of myself" smilie?). It was more about the product itself, I'm afraid. And the equivalent Madone was A LOT more $$, and was out of the question. Gee, I hope the LBS got to keep $600.

Hmmm, where can you even find anything made in the USA anymore? When I bought a pack of hangers recently, I did make sure to buy the USA ones (which I was quite shocked to find).

No need to be ashamed. This being a global discussion board anyone here could be in Taiwan as far as I know. Your LBS was happy to boost your local economy. Hmmm bikes made in USA? Quite a few good ones I think but then add Shimano etc and it's a mixed bag again.

How about Jeanne d'Arc, or Joan of Arc if you are more inclined towards the English? At least it keeps the J intact. Jammin' Joan the Jamis. or something. I have a Jamis, too, but I just call it The Jamis. Highly uncreative, but it gets the job done.

As for bikes made in the US, there are quite a few small framebuilders, so the next time you want a US-made bike, go custom. Luna, Gunnar, Waterford, Vanilla, Sweat Pea, Bike Friday, Rivendell, and many others that I don't know about...
