I went on a low carb diet 4 years ago and lost 35 pounds, which turned out to be too much for me., I'm fairly tall and small boned, but muscular. Then I discovered biking and that I needed those carbs. I've gained back a lot of the weight, which I don't particularly regret, except for about 10 pounds. I am a lot more muscular that I was, and can ride a lot farther more comfortably. But, I am committing to losing the 10 again. I'm a 164 now, and I think I could lose the 10 by modifying my diet a little. Less fat and less microbrew. Darn. Stuff's expensive anyway.

    D'oh, arriving too late again.

Is there another challenge planned for September/October?

Okay, (if I'm back on this thing) My weigh in as of this morning is 139.5.

I haven't really clocked in any exercise these last 2 weeks, unless you count 5 rounds of golf, (all by cart) and a 1.5 hour hilly walk yesterday.

Ohh yeah - forgot to tell you - my bet is back on with my sister for those jeans! 10 lbs by Oct 1. By the original bet, I need to be 135 by then, but I personally hope to be 130 by then!

141.9... consistency is good, right? I was doing good getting my workouts in, but then the week went to h-e-hockeysticks. I'm ok with maintaining though, as long as I'm not gaining. I figured it would take an insane amount of effort and time to knock off these "last 10 lbs" anyways!

It's been almost 5 years since I've been in the 130's though, and it will be time for celebration when I make it there!
Somewhere behind the athlete you've become and the hours of practice and the coaches who have pushed you...is a little girl who fell in love and never looked back... do it for her.

Emily - her goal is to maintain. Her last weigh-in was at 103, so she's not far off.

Congrats, tctrek! I totally snorted when I read this! Good job on the loss and on celebrating with a long ride!

I'm an idiot. I think I have some type of mental block on Fridays - I forgot to weigh-in again! In fact, I haven't stepped on the scale even once this week, and that's unusual for me. I promise to weigh tomorrow and post then. Duh.

    Weightloss eludes me

I ride about 100 miles a week....am eating few carbs, little fat and have quit drinking alcohol...I STILL can't lose. So frustrating.

I keep hearing I should be lifting weights...Anyone in their late 40s have this issue. I need to lose about 15 or 20 pounds and more importantly about 10 percent fat.

    Help?

I eat LOTS of fruit and veggies, only whole grain, some lean meat or alternative protein, low fat dairy and some good fats. Pretty well no processed food, only a little dark chocolate for dessert, red wine most days. Lots of exercise. It works for me. YOu can count calories at first to make sure you're not eating too much. Also, 6 small meals instead of 3 big ones.

Google the mediterranean (sp?) diet (the DASH diet is similar). It's more of a lifestyle than a diet.

Yes, I have that issue! I'm 48....I started to do more strength training this year finally (about 2-3 x per week). It is more funtional and core stuff, free weights...I see a PT once per week.

I admit my eating habits got somewhat worse at the same time, due to other things (work schedule, husband traveling for work which led to unplanned dinners and night time eating,etc.). But the upshot is that despite the strength stuff I have gained about 8#'s this year.

The good news is that I know I am stronger, and my upper body is not as spindly as it once was. I'm still a pear but a more balanced pear!

P.S. I am not ready to give up my wine either!!!!
