we had a bike stolen off our car about 10 years ago. Our home owner's insurance bought us a new bike.

It's definitely worth getting that rider on your homeowners or renters insurance. When my car was broken into several years ago, my stolen cds would have been covered by that policy, if the value of them hadn't been way below my deductible. But it's good to know that if I ever have more valuable items in the car (like my bike), they're covered.
"How about if we all just try to follow these very simple rules of the road? Drive like the person ahead on the bike is your son/daughter. Ride like the cars are ambulances carrying your loved ones to the emergency room. This should cover everything, unless you are a complete sociopath."
David Desautels, in a letter to velonews.com

Random babblings and some stuff to look at.
