    Unhappy thieves to vandals, sad...

Recently I posted about an attempted bike theft at our house. I think the parties involved are showing their anger about not getting the bike with vandalism.

It wasn't something major. Eggs at the front door windows. Same night of the week, and time as the theft attempt. We heard the loud noise, but continued onto bed. I discovered it today. It could just be kids. But the timing is odd.

We have tried to focus on keeping the garage door down. My bike, and DH's have some cheap locks attaching them to the garage rack now post theft attempt. Once swipe of a bolt cutter, they would be gone. But, it's a deterient from pulling the bike straight out of the rack.

It's just unsettling to think they would come back. Think it might be time for a heavier lock. I have this funny feeling about my garage getting broken into next. *sigh*

Wow, what creeps! Can you borrow a surveillance camera and catch the punks?

I would get my house and garage door and windows locked up for a while.

    Wanna borrow a dog? Rentamutt

That's awful, hope you/cops catch the jerks.

Seriously do report this to the police, and enlist your neighbors. Maybe post neighborhood watch signs.

It does not bode well that they came back, almost like they are taunting you if it's the same person/s.

    That just blows. Thieves suck.

Get a surveillance system. And bigger locks. And keep all doors down and locked. Sadly, you can't be too careful

My bikes are locked to a steel beam in my basement with two locks and a heavy cable. Inside the house that already has a monitored alarm system. Since the dogs died, these are my babies.
For 3 days, I get to part of a thousand other journeys.

Set up a tape recording of a shot gun being cocked that they can trigger.

On a more serious note, you might try enlisting your neighbors into helping catch these punks if they are regular about their timing. It doesn't bode well that they would return to the scene.

    Yup.
My dogs are pretty scary. When I leave the house and know I'll be back within 20 minutes or so I don't even bother locking the door.

Yipes! did you ever let the police know about the first incident? Sounds like a pattern is developing. I wonder if you could ask them to do extra patrols for the next little while . . . apparently my MIL has had good luck with this, particularly since she is an excellent baker . . .

When I was a kid, our house used to get targeted with eggs and tp on Devil's Night, more so than other houses on our block. I always thought it was because we were one of the first Asian families in the neighborhood . . .

Eggs and tp are a pain to clean up, especially after they've congealed. But I'd rather have those than getting my bike stolen.

Thx ladies for your responses. I have indeed thought of posting a sign in the sub about the theives. It seems like they are not going away readily.

I appreciate the offer about borrowing the dog. That part is really sad in our house right now...

We have a lab. She's only five, but has recently been really sick and has a major back issue. She can't really walk even with the vets meds. I don't think a surgery would cure her either. I think the inevitable is coming.

Gentle a breed she may be, someone would never get that close to the house with her well. The big dog bark can be intimidating. The thieves showed up about the time the dog got sick and doesn't bark anymore.
