well the title is what makes you think 'divorce settlement' before anything else. They first call her a divorcee... what a horrid title.

You'd have to put the accent aigu on it, as in fiancé/fiancée. When it's feminine people get the idea from the double "e."

I am aware of the accent aigu and feminine/masculine forms. I took HS French in preparation for the vast influx of French immigrants. Or maybe a trip to Montreal.
