Bummed that I can't ride in my first organized ride

So, my boyfriend signed us up for my first organized ride tomorrow...70 miles because I want to try that before I do a century. And now I can't do it

My wisdom tooth has been acting up since Monday, finally had a (small) surgical procedure done on Thursday, and I haven't been able to eat anything since Monday except for chicken broth and Jamba Juice...you think that can power me along for 70 miles? Yeah...didn't think so. The back area of my mouth is still swollen (i'm wondering when this will go down) and still kind of achey.

I am so bummed about this!!

    I guess i'm just a weakling!

I'm sorry you will miss your ride! And no, you are NOT a weakling!

If you just had the tooth out on Thursday, it's probably best not to do any heavy exertion anyway, whether or not you can eat enough for fuel. You don't want your circulation hopping so much that the socket starts bleeding, and you don't want to risk losing the clot in there already and ending up with "dry socket."

(never had dry socket with my wisdom teeth, but it sounded awful!)

A weakling? Hardly. Did you mention it to the dentist? I'm sure, for the reasons expressed by Knotted, he would have said absolutely not! Out of the question! There. It's out of your hands. (or mouth)

Just go for a bike ride at least yourself without the distance, if you are advised to take it slower on yourself for a few days.

I think it would be wise to sit this one out because you'll not be up to par for it and wouldn't you rather enjoy the ride?

Actually I had a wisdom tooth taken out a few months ago. No big deal, took less than 10 minutes. I mentioned to my dentist that I was going to ride that afternoon. NO! I wasn't to get on a bicycle for 24 hours not only because of the issues Knotted mentioned, but he said I could suddenly get dizzy or lose my balance. Mine was easy, no swelling, no pain, so I imagine that if you are still in pain and swollen, and you haven't had solid food, you need to be off for a couple of days. I say ask someone who knows, but then again, why don't you just rest, read a trashy novel and eat bon bons. (through a straw of course).

NO! NO STRAWS! Straws bad..you don't want to suck out that clot. Dry socket is immensely painful.

Allow yourself to heal, you will be happier in the long run.

I forgot about the straw thing. Okay, put them in a blender, but keep the trashy novel.

The tooth is actually still in...the dentist just cut off the gum on top and didn't want to take out the tooth because it is too close to some nerves, plus she said it wouldn't cause any more problems *at least I hope so*. But the area is still healing and swollen and very painful to touch.

I am not so bummed any more, because I just made my mouth feel better with a chocolate milk shake! I haven't had one of those in years!

And resting actually feels good I am just afraid that getting back on track will be hard.
