Well, I ride where farm trucks travel so here goes:
bungees

beer
1/2 half of a dog
pliers
sod
a tennis shoe
pornography
I once read an article about a cyclist that found a brand new life preserve and rode with it on in 90 degree weather.![]()

In the last month I've found
* wallet/checkbook (returned to owner)
* green bandana (kept it but bleached it out just to be sure it was clean)
* screwdriver (it's now in my kitchen drawer, thank you very much)
And about a hundred 1/2" PVC elbows. Actually they were scattered all over the shoulder of the road in a minefield pattern but I left them there.
You never know what treasure you will come across.
gloves!
Roadkill in good enough shape to return to collect (mit rubber glubbies and bag). Bubba gets the honor of harvesting the feathers for flytying.
And, shhhhh, don't report to Fish & Game, m'kay? It could be a tad embarrassing . . .![]()

we mostly just have crows and squirrels on the road. oh, and rats. ick.
A long strip of unused condoms in purple wrappers. My riding partner (female) stopped to get them. Don't know what she did with them; don't want to know!

The fan off a car.
Not the fan belt, the fan. No idea how it fell out. Or how far the rest of the car got without it.

today I found a Nintendo DS along the road.
It works!
It was right in front of SKnot's old school, so I'll be calling the school to see if any of the kids have lost one.
I also "found" ("discovered" or "saw") a cruiser with pink rims and astroturf instead of paint on the frame. (the whole frame was covered in green astroturf!) It reminded me of Bill Nye's grass-covered car. (there is a brief glimpse of it in this video, but I can't find the vid of him driving it around Seattle http://youtube.com/watch?v=ymg7316fDCo )

Once riding my bike in the Lake Chabot area near castro valley in California, I was riding and a loose horse sans rider came running full tilt at me down the trail. Since I was a horse person, I got in front of him, waved him down and grabbed his reins to stop him. Do not do this at home if you do not know how!
A little while later, two people riding double came up on a horse to get the horse. I almost let him loose again and slapped him on the butt when they acted quite surly and never even thanked me for catching their horse! What is wrong with some people?![]()
My strangest find was on a cold (5F), windy, winter morning. Alongside the road to work was an empty cash drawer. I stopped to ponder it and decided that it looked in pretty good condition, and hadn't been there yesterday when I rode by. So I pulled out my cell phone and dialed 911. Since it was a cell phone I reached the state police, explained my find and location on the edge of 2 towns. They knew a convenience store had been robbed the night before and routed me to the appropriate police department. The only problem was that the police wanted my car license plate and make. I explained that wouldn't help them since I was on my bike not in a car. They wanted me to wait for them to arrive, so I asked that they come sooner than the 30 minutes they suggested, explaining my concern about hypothermia in the cold and wind. I did pull out the mylar blanket I always carry in the winter to break the wind more, but was pleasantly surprised when a police car pulled up within 5 minutes. The officer was quick about taking what information I could give him, looking at my ID, and taking down phone numbers. He also checked that I was ok cold wise before letting me head on to work.
That's a great story, Newfsmith!
I haven't found anything, except roadkill (squirrels and chipmunks), which I quickly ride around.
one day I was riding alongside a road with heavy residential and a big plastic soup ladle came flying out of a backyard fence.
I found that odd and amusing...
