He gets to work on his wheel fairly frequently, since he breaks spokes every now and again. (one day, he annoyed himself greatly: kicked the wheel inadvertently unclipping, took out several!) He's getting pretty good at truing, but maybe there are some tools that he doesn't have yet that would make it easier?

    I think you might be referring to a spoke wrench. They can be purchased individually or as a set. If all your bikes have the same size spokes, you'll only need just the one. Just make sure to get the right size though.
