    Podcasts - fitness, training....

Not sure where to start this thread but here it is.

I download a lot of podcasts for various things. The other day, someone recommended a few fitness podcasts that I thought I'd share with you.

If anyone has any they recommend, post them here!

I download mine from itunes but you can probably google the titles and find them online as well.

Fitness Rocks - a doctor talks about weight loss and fitness and healthy diets all sorts of interesting related topics. Most are 30-60 minutes. He is knowledgeable and makes a lot of sense.

Podrunner - Workout Music for running, indoor cycling, or any fast paced exercised. I love this one. It's techno music but it's all set as a certain pace (140-175 bpm) so I choose the pace I want to run and go for it. I love the steady beat.

Podcasts for Running - This ia Couch to 5km set of podcasts. About 12 weeks altogether? It has music and a voice to guide you. I haven't tried it yet but I did listen to parts of it. Might be good if you're a new runner.

Anyone have podcasts they like? I don't wear my ipod when I ride outdoors btw ...

I will be very interested to see what you like out there. Good thread.

I haven't done much yet with podcasts, but along those lines, I REALLY like a cycling CD I bought and loaded onto my iPod. It is the Zooming CD from Ian Jackson. I ordered the set, which also has audio for both walking and running programs. I use the Zooming workout the most (it is specifically for cycling).

I haven't gotten into podcasts just yet (but I plan to soon!)..

But if anyone is interested in fitness workouts in audio format, I highly recommend both of the following:

    www.cardiocoach.com

    http://www.itrain.com

Both have some very, very good workouts!

I MUCH prefer my own playlists for everything but running. I seem to get extremely irritated if the beat isn't exactly meeting my running pace. I've tried counting the beats and making playlists that match but I've only found one song that works for me so far.

I started listening to podcasts because I sometimes have trouble sleeping but I can always fall asleep when the TV's on. I soon discovered that I could also fall asleep easily listening to talk radio but it was sometimes difficult to find shows on in the middle of the night (where I live). Also, I can't put the radio etc on at night or I'd wake DH so I would use one earplug for my walkman (olden days ipod for your youngsters.. ). Anyhoo, when I got my ipod, I started downloading old movies and radio shows and they worked great! I've listened to tons of old radio plays and shows like Father Knows Best etc. I usually only hear the first 5-10 minutes before I fall asleep so sometimes on Saturday or Sunday mornings, I find one I've haven't heard the end of and I fast forward.

Now I am finding that there are many interesting topics out there in podcastland, as well as a lot of junk. Take a look and see for yourself!

I LOVE old time radio shows! Like GLC, I'm podcast-deficient, but I do have a satellite radio and listen to Gunsmoke and Dragnet from the 50s. It's great fun.

As for training, IF I can figure out how the whole podcasting thing works (my mother gets it, but I somehow can't), I'll check out the running one, as I'm toying with the idea of doing a triathlon by the time I'm 45 (my original plan was by the time I'm 30, but I was in grad school, and then by 40 but I was getting divorced, yadda yadda yadda).

I like listening to Dr. Laura podcasts. I know - not everyone's favorite person, but I like her and it's entertaining.

There's always the Fredcast if you want a cycling specific podcast. DH downloads them and we listen to them in the car on long rides...

I've just started using this one and am finding it very useful- the music isn't entirely to my taste but for the first few weeks when the walk/run intervals are short I am going to stick with it because the prompts as to when to walk and when to run are really useful. Its acutally 9 weeks in the end (he says 12 weeks in his introductin for some reason)

I am a Fitness Rock charter member and I used Podcast for Running. Started my running program and ran more than I ever had in my life but running really aggravated the arthritis in my neck.

    Love Fitness Rocks.

This may not be for everyone but there is a website DharmaSeed.org and some of the free talks are very "centering" and I believe quite helpful. They download directly into my iPhone for a listen. It seems to use Quick Player so they would probably download into iTunes to put on an iPod. You can search the talks (mindfulness, uncomfortable emotions, lovingkindness, etc.) to get a topic you're interested in.
