Mr. - Thanks. In the Social Work profession that is what we'd call enabling!!! I *might* fail to mention that to him!!! Honestly, thought, I really don't want flowers - they really have little appeal to me after working in the industry for so long.

I am a minimalist when it comes to diamonds and jewelery - I'd go without a wedding ring if I could, but that gets me into a bit of trouble here and there. I actually have a beautiful wedding ring and it is in my box on my dresser. In its place I wear a super small plain gold band from Wal -Mart. The ring fits nicely under my cycling gloves and says "I am married".

I think I am rambling, so I will get to the point- no flowers, no diamonds, just get me cycling stuff and I will be happy. If the UPS truck with that parcel on it crashes and burns, then I will be saddened!

What do the rest of the ladies have on their wish list?

I associate the smell of all cut flowers with funerals.
Not a big fan of them, honestly.

My DH did say he got me something "not romantic" for Valentine's Day...but it won't be in until early next week. No idea what it is...didn't expect anything (nor do I really want anything), cuz dang! That puts it on me now to get something for HIM.

Hmmm.... just think of something not romantic - or something uber romantique to contrast... or just don't worry about it. It'll all work out in the long run..

Me too! Hubby loves to buy me jewelry but I would rather have cycling stuff at this point.

Former floral designer here, too! It used to be so hard working like a dog the whole week or so before Valentine's day and seeing how much money men were willing to shell out to declare undying love for various sweet hearts, only to drag home and find dh and the kids waiting for me to fix dinner. Dh has become much more enlightened about these matters these days, which is nice, but I don't need much either; just making the gesture means a lot.

my hubby is a penny pincher but no worries...it gets me out of having to find something special for him! besides...I am more of a simple person as well and want to be included in the purchasing of things! He did excellent for the holidays...I emailed him link after link of things I liked...he picked what he liked of those things and put them in my stocking!!! I had no idea what I was getting but it was something I wanted...and I forgot half the things I sent him links of (mostly from the Terry sale) hehehe

He is on crutches now and can't drive to any stores...so I said we get nothing! Our anniversary is the 18th...a fun dinner out and a couples massage is on the menu for then!!!!

***I had better get at least a handmade (printshop) card tho...I know he can do that!!!!

I despise holidays where gifts are expected. It would mean so much more to get a gift without being told to expect one by the jewelery store ad or greeting card company.
National Pancake Day is the only exception.

I could get behind a National Pancake Day!
That's exactly why I'm puzzled, and a bit miffed, that DH said he got me something. We had specifically said nothing would come in the door for this Hallmark manufactured "holiday."
I'm hoping that at this point next week, I'll report that my "unromantic" something was a visit from a plumber to fix that leaky pipe in the basement.

I personally LOVE gifts whether they come on organized holidays, unorganized holidays, or even pancake day. Commercial, non commercial. Religious, non religious. It is safe to say that I will always receive a present with a huge freaking smile on my face.

And you know all that blah, blah, blah, blah about the joy of Christmas is the giving? Well, that is all good, but as we all know, there is, dare I say it??????????? MORE JOY IN RECEIVING THAN GIVING

There - I have opened myself up for slaughter - I can take it, just give it to me with a gift, please!!!

That's funny, because for V-day, we went to the Vet College pancake breakfast fundraiser. That's all. No flowers, cards, etc.

Feb 14 is too close to our un-anniversary on Feb 22. We always celebrate that, because many years ago, we forgot our 1st wedding anniversary in August in the excitement over a one month old baby. (Do the math, 12 - 1 = 11, and 11>9. Not that I care, just so you know.) Feb 22 was the day we first kissed, 15 years ago.

But no flowers or cards for the un-anniversary either. He's taking me shopping at Victoria's Secret!

My birthday is the 17th and all I care about is people remembering me then. I do prefer DH get me a valentine's card but not much else. We usually get pizza and stay home.

    Silver's b'day is the 16th...for her 40th b'day, I found out that florists don't give post valentine's day discounts for 40 red roses...$150!

Glad that was a one time thing...

Ouch!! Guess that isn't your plan for her 50th?

DH shocked the heck out of me and sent me a pajama gram! I am a HUGE fan of flannel pajamas and he picked out a pair to be sent to me. So much better than flowers. Of course I worked crazy long hours this week and didn't even get him a card.
