Wow, I don't know anywhere around here to get orthotics for $180! All the pedorthists I know charge $300-$400. Niiiiice!

Dex, I have the EXACT same problems as you when it comes to my knees! I have tight hamstrings and ITB and I'm knock-kneed (when my feet are straight my knees turn inward and when my knees are straight my feet turn outward.) I have always had leg problems and knee pain. In the past couple of years I have suspected I have arthritis. In January I went to an orthopedic doctor and he said that I also have osteoarthritis (OA) which is likely from the condition of my legs. I'm only 27 so I don't know how else to explain getting OA that young.
I was prescribed several sessions of PT and definitely learned a lot. My sessions sounded a lot like yours. Doing the strengthening exercises and then 20 minutes of ice and electrical stimulation. It most definitely helped with the sharp pains I was having where I felt like my knee was slipping. I have them a lot less often.
They were very hesitant to tape me because they like for your muscles to learn to track your knee rather than relying on tape but ended up having to do it for the first few days on one of my knees because it was particularly bad. I haven't taped it since.
I got custom orthotics (insoles) at a whopping $180 a pair (since insurance doesn't cover it) and they are a godsend. I ended up getting a second pair. I do notice however that sometimes now my ankle hurts as it gets use to walking the "right" way in with my orthotics.
I also bought a foam roller for the house so that I can stretch and deep tissue massage my ITB on it. It hurts like hell but I think it makes a difference.
Positive vibes on your journey to pain-less knees and feel free to PM me anytime you like as I've been on this journey now for almost a year. I'm not pain-free but at least I know how to manage it all.

Yeah, I guess you're right. It could be worse and they are custom. If you check out www.footsmart.com they have a bunch of different orthotics there too. Some of them you can mold yourself. Not sure how good they are but they are reasonably priced.
