You can get red velvet cake at the country store on the corner by my house. The woman (she has to be 85 years old) whose family owns the store makes it every week and will make a whole one on request.

I should go get me some.

I tried to send you an entire layer of the cake- like a frisbee!
I had started icing the cake, myhusband called me into the den to hear a news story- I sat down for a 'minute'- we heard a splat. - I went back inthe kitchen & found that an wntire layer had skated off - the cake was still warm - the cream cheese frosting was melty & oozy- and zoom!

It is Devils Food Cake with red food coloring to make it a deep red. My husband had it as his groom's cake at our wedding- delicious!! And no, it wasn't an armadillo (if you saw Steel Magnolias you know what I am talking about).

I just pulled the Angelfood cake out of the oven. We're not close to any of our family so we're doing a neighborhood meal next door. It should be great fun complete with some bike talk since my neighbor is one of those crazy cycling people.

I seemed doomed in my efforts to make this cake- the last time I tried 15 years ago- Just as pulled the mixer out of the batter I hit the start button - you can imagine the pink rain . . . now the frisbee thing- I think I'll stick to traditional chocoalte cakes & hummingbird cake-
