This Veteran's Day has been a particularly poignant one for me.

My father, a WWII vet (Navy, in the South Pacific in the last year or so of the war) has had a tough year, with CAT scans and whatnot confirming that parts of his brain have atrophied and are probably not functional anymore. My mother, 12 years his junior, feels that this is really the beginning of the end. The last few weeks have been very tough for her.

My father would never talk about the war and now he couldn't even if he wanted to. I have never been very close to him, but I am grateful for all he has given me and for the time he dedicated to his country, which he loves.

My thoughts are with all veterans out there, everywhere.

We showed this video at our assembly on Friday. It makes me cry every time I watch it.

This Veteran's Day has been a particularly poignant one for me.

Yellow, me too. This is my first Veteran's Day after losing my dad (a B-17 pilot who flew 30 missions to liberate Europe).

I also feel unfathomably grateful for everything that our dads, and all those who served, gave us and the rest of the world through their service.

My heart goes out to all those who are mourning the loss of a beloved veteran, and to all those who continue to serve.

May we always treat them with respect, and may we always thank them when we see them, for their willingness to serve.

It is a good day to remember and be thankful for those who have come before in order that we may enjoy and relish what we have today

My father was a WWII veteran and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He died at age 90 in September 2006. We waited until Veteran's Day of that year to have his memorial. The year went by so quickly. I miss him.
