Oh, the TdV wasn't cancelled. We just decided that riding in wet, cold, blowing snow really didn't sound all that fun.

So instead I went shopping at Fred Meyer (remember: you can't walk into a grocery store and buy wine in Utah...it was like Mecca) and then went to Shiraz's house and hung out and--surprise!--drank wine and chatted. In the evening a bunch of us went to the little wine tasting event, which was fun. I enjoyed hanging out with Shiraz and her DH, her cute daughters, and her friends. Cool band and great company. What a fun little event.

I ended up leaving early Sun am, which means that we didn't get to ride Buckskin, because Mr. Yellow was missing. We found him later in the afternoon, but for a few hours there all was chaotic (long story short: he didn't return from a hunting trip when he said he was going to, but it turns out they got a little stuck because of the weather and didn't have cell phone coverage...all turned out well, but still...).

So NEXT YEAR it better not snow!

I went to Idaho Falls on Thurs night and then onto West Yellowstone Friday morning. I had planned to meet sis in Bozeman and do some shopping on Friday. I checked at the hotel we stayed at and asked if they were planning to cancel...'No, they ride no matter what the weather'....OK, went onto Bozeman and driving Galatin was harry at times and though, no way!!!! I got to Bozeman and had a call from my DH who said he just received a call and the ride was canceled.

Sandy and I then changed our plans and stayed in Bozeman for the night. We had great fun together. On late Sat morning, we then ventured back to West Yellowstone on relatively clear road and spent the night. I guess W.Y. got hammered on Sat morning, but by the time we arrived early afternoon, most of it was melted. Picked up t-shirts and bummed around town. Really did have a good time with my sister, so no complaints, but I am ready for the ride next year....

I am glad to hear that both of you had a good time regardless. Wine, family, friends, and WARMTH!!! Yep, all about good things here (w/o the wine - can you say MAJOR headache - preservatives or something, I think?) Glad to hear also that Mr. Yellow made it out of the mountains in one piece. Whew........

    Next year!!!

sbctwin, I had some friends that were on holiday in the Tetons and had planned to go to Yellowstone on Sat but the south entrance was closed for most of the day due to snow. They waited it out rather than drive all the way around. I can think of worse places than the Tetons to have to kill some time.

CyclaSutra has done a self supported ride in the spring before the road opens up. I'd like to do that someday, maybe in 08? What do you think? We could have a TE Jellystone ride!! CyclaSutra could be our guide.

There is a period of time in the spring where they open Yellostone to foot and bike traffic only. It is when they are preparing the park for opening...it is sometime in early April, I think. I could definitely have my arm twisted for an event like that!!! A TE Jellystone ride would be FANTASTIC!!!!

    Hey,
Yellow and I made the best a snowy situation!! Yes I chickened out! I did not have my skies or snow tires to ride over the top of Buckskin I am hoping to still ride it. It was great to see you again Yellow. Work is interferring with play.

I have ridden in Yellowstone in the spring several times doing the "self supporting kind" . It is great! We drive in and parked our car and then ride from there. It is a lot cheaper too. Last year they charged around $60 for the tour and then you pay to ride through the park $12. Several of us rented a nice condo with 4 bedrooms and two baths. It had a nice kitchen and living area. Lots of fun! Count me in for next year.
