I haven't been to the grocery store in weeks. He makes my breakfast - today is breakfast burritos, cooks dinner, cleans up. Plus he's doing all the remodeling and yard work.

It will end soon though. He started sending out resumes this week and already has people wanting interviews.

I think it's great - especially the nice meal at the end of a long work day, but honestly if DH were home all the time it would make me CRAZY.

I'm trying to figure out what it would take to tempt him up here - there's the shed that needs to be cleaned, the attic emptied, china packed . . . Oy, my head hurts. And, no, there is no leftover bike stuff. Well, Rosebud the red Trek 720 is up for sale but she's too big for Thom.

Let's see, maybe an Alden open water rowing shell? Would that tempt him?

Sounds DIVINE! When my DH was on leave, he did lots of different things, but NEVER the groceries, cleaning, cooking.... Enjoy while you can.

I'm with SheFly - my husband's great about doing projects around the house, taking care of my bikes, cars, staining, making little parts to fix things, etc., but no way is he going to do the groceries, cleaning and cooking (probably best on the cooking LOL)!

When my ex-hubby was unemployed (for 1/2 of the time we were married)... he didn't do anything. I had to work, pay all the bills, wash the clothes, clean the house, go to the store, etc.

Yea, you are shocked I'm divorced... eh?

My husband is a MUCH better housewife than I ever was. But he's also a much better breadwinner. So, while I enjoyed immensely the 2-3 months he was unemployed back in 1999 while I temped to keep the cash flowing, I'm very happy it was ONLY 2-3 months back in 1999. lol.

He makes my bike habit and unemployment possible! He doesn't seem to mind.

My husband's been retired for the last year and he started cooking yet, or doing groceries. Well he does clean and work on the house and lanscaping, and mess up the laundry.......[slaps self for saying something so negative],


I keep telling myself......baby steps, he's figuring it out in baby steps.

I'm still doing the laundry and emptying the litter box. I did cook a bunch this weekend too. I had a hankering for chicken pot pie and I made a pumpkin pie too. We went to the grocery store together yesterday as well.

But he's making a stir fry right now for me to take for my lunch this week.

My DH is an early retiree (actually, he got laid off by our company during the telecom bust, but it worked out so well, he stayed at home!) He is phenomenal. He shops, cooks, does laundry, vacuums, cleans (not as well as I do, but he does some of it), maintains our bikes, does yardwork, repairs, house projects, etc....

Because of all this, since he's been home getting many of the chores done we used to have to spend all weekend doing, we've actually gotten to have fun on weekends -- riding, hiking, kayaking, traveling, and most recently, buying a sailboat and going sailing.

We are very fortunate to be able to live on my salary (not having children helps). He's happy, I'm happy; we're happy. We've been living this way for six years now, and it's working. This would not work for everyone, but it's just about perfect for us.
