    Unhappy I'm shrinking?!?!?!?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Just had my yearly physical today and my height was measured (twice!) as 5'1-1/2". I've always measured 5'2-1/2" my entire adult life. I'm kinda freaked about this - could I have lost an inch of height in a year? I'm 46, not quite old enough to be shrinking so fast (not menopausal, either).

My doc said not to worry about it, that the measuring devices up against a wall have a certain amount of "play" in them, but I'm not so sure.

    Anyone else had this happen?

    Thanks!

No, but I did find out I am almost an inch taller when I went to see the ladypart doctor.

I've always been about 5'3". She had me 5'3 and 3/4 in my sock feet.

    I like their scales!

Hey, that makes me think....I believe in the past I've always been measured on a standard "doctor's scale" that has the height measurement coming up from the scale in back. This time, the doc's office had upgraded to a fancy new separate digital scale, and had the measuring device separately, on the wall. I wonder if the doctor's scale measuring devices have been overestimating my height for years? It's possible....at least if that's the case, I'm not actively shrinking! One can hope....

I spent many years thinking I was 5'3" but SadieKate set me straight on that one. I'm only about 5' 2.25".

My durn feet keep getting bigger. I recently came to the realization that my Sidi Genius 5s that are only 1.5 years old are just too small now. This didn't make me happy considering how much those things cost. But really, 5" 2.25" and a size 41? As an adult I've gone from a size 6.5 to an 8.5+. I have to buy wide women's shoes, too. By the time I return to the earth I'll probably be 5'0" and have a size 10 foot. Won't that look Hobbit-like.

    Short People got no reason
    Short People got no reason
    Short People got no reason
    To live

    They got little hands
    And little eyes
    And they walk around
    Tellin' great big lies
    They got little noses
    And tiny little teeth
    They wear platform shoes
    On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no Short People
    Don't want no Short People
    Don't want no Short People
    Round here

Short People are just the same
    As you and I
    (A Fool Such As I)
    All men are brothers
    Until the day they die
    (It's A Wonderful World)

    Short People got nobody
    Short People got nobody
    Short People got nobody
    To love

    They got little baby legs
    And they stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
    Just to say hello
    They got little cars
    That go beep, beep, beep
    They got little voices
    Goin' peep, peep, peep
    They got grubby little fingers
    And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
    Don't want no Short People
    Don't want no Short People
    'Round here

    (sorry. could NOT resist.)

and even though I am large, I am getting shorter. I think it is inevitable.

I chalk it all up to bad posture.

I've had patients "gain" up to 2 inches when I corrected their posture.

I have achieved both of these things: shorter in height and wider in foot. Grace in every movement, charm in every pose. OK, maybe not that part.

Well, I've lost 1/2 an inch, I've always said I was 5'6" . When I went in for my bone density test, I measured 5' 5.5".

Unlike yellow, my feet seem to be smaller too - my new Teva's are size 6 1/2, my old ones are size 7.

    Just a thought

Our bones compact as the day goes on, so your height is shorter by the end of the day... dunno if it is an inch different though...

Don't worry about it yellow - I'm 5'3" (not letting SK measure me any time soon ) and (would) wear a 41 in Sidis (if I could spare that much cash ). Do wish I could have the normal person height to go with the normal person sized feet...

When I was fitted for my bike last year, found out I was 1/4" taller than I thought. I specifically asked to see if I was shrinking. I'm of that age.

But my feet are getting bigger. Bummer.

Unfortunately, my measurement was taken at 9 am! So, I may be even shorter at night!

As for posture, I had the nurse take my height again after the first time was so low, and I made a good effort to stand as straight as possible. I've never been told I have bad posture, and I don't slouch or have a humped back or anything, and unfortunately, the measurement was exactly the same....

And now I have Randy Newman singing in my head in addition to having to shop for wider shoes.
