I saw Mary last year but not Silver. Mr. Silver and Silver - question for you. Two years ago I had an RV so we stayed at the schol. Last year, a bunch of my friends tented at the school and it was SO COLD!. I tried to book a cabin at McCormick Creek but they were all sold out! (I called the day after we got home from the Hilly as they take reservations 365 days out.)

Thought about a cabin but can only find those located around Nashville or Lake Monroe. we weren't wanting to have to drive 30 - 45 minutes to ride start. Any other ideas?

TrekJeni: We'll hope to see you there!

I'm not sure if you're looking for RV sites, cabins or camping, so here's a broad spectrum of ideas:

First, Bloomington's not big and is fairly easy to get around in. Anything on the north side of Lake Monroe, close to either Hwy 446 or Hwy 37, is probably a max of 15 to 20 minutes from the start. My condo is about 20 minutes, but it's only distance, no traffic.

Second, if you go to www.visitbloomington.com , you'll see a list of private cabin rentals. Some are in Ellettsville where the tour begins. Others near Lake Lemon may be within 15 to 20 minutes. The Century Suites is a unique option on the east side that may have some merit...

Third, the B&B's in the area are good options. I've stayed in The Grant Street Inn downtown and it's great (owned by our local billionaire), but parking could be an issue if you have a large vehicle. Also, I know that The Scholar's Inn has a great reputation as well.

If hotels are last on your list, they are still good options since it's not a football weekend:
    • Super 8, Quality Inn, and Hampton Inn are closest in proximity. While not new, I understand that all are clean and well maintained
    • Homewood Suites, Fairfield Inn, Townplace Suites, and Holiday Inn Express are 10 minutes away and are fairly new
    • Downtown offers a Marriott Courtyard and a brand new Hilton Garden Suite

Finally, there's the Silver hovel. I have a condo on the southeast side. There are two and a half baths, a couple of extra futons, and lots of floor space (camping without the cold). I only spend about 10 waking hours a week there, so it's not luxury, but it may be available to TE'ers IF SilverSister and family don't come up for the tour (I'm not really expecting them come up from Arkansas, but they've not said "no" yet). Just PM interest or reservations to us.

    Mr. S.,
Saw a guy on yesterday's Civil War Century wearing a Hilly Hundred jersey.
I thought of the TE forums, as I know this ride is discussed frequently here.
Not sure if this particular guy was from here, and ventured to there, or from there and ventured to here.
    But, they really get around!
Never been to Bloomington and unfortunately won't for this ride - this year! - but have fun on it!

Yep, they're everywhere! I'm sure that can prove that people who ride the Hilly Hundred have a longer life expectancy At a tour yesterday, I saw one guy wearing a 1998 Hilly Hundred jersey!

Everyone has to do this tour once.
