Need Good Weather Vibes....

We're scheduled to ride our MS ride this weekend - in New Bern, NC. So, of course, we now have a little tropical something that might hit Saturday and Sunday....And we're supposed to be camping All hotels are, of course, sold out

We *need* the rain - but I really don't want to have to make the decision whether to ride in a tropical storm (They've carried on with the ride in a tropical storm before, so I don't think it will be postponed).

Please send dry thoughts our way..... (and I could use a few healing thoughts too - I've developed a nice head cold to match )

I do the MS ride here in Mass every year. Last year, the organizers actually had to CANCEL the Saturday portion of the ride due to weather - we were getting a nor'easter, and the roads were just too dangerous for so many people. Of course, there were those that chose to ride anyway...

I have also ridden this in the POURING RAIN and COLD (temps in the 50s), so can totally sympathize! I do hope that you have at least a DRY ride this weekend, and take plenty of vitamins beforehand.

Oh man, CA - here's to hoping your weather is decent!!! I just looked at our forecast for the following weekend, and it doesn't look any better. Guess it's time to pull out the rain gear. Lovely.

I'm sure you guys will have a great time, regardless of the weather! Just don't take any unnecessary risks!

I'm pulling for you, CA! The friend here at work that I sponsor every year is also doing the MS 150 this weekend.

I have the same feelings about the potential for a tropical storm down there since our boat is now happily parked in a marina just east of Oriental. I hope the storm stays out to sea; otherwise we'll be running down there ourselves to secure the boat for a major storm...and we've only owned it since last Thursday!

I'll be watching the weather too.

I'm supposed to ride it as well. Just not sure if I'll be able to get my act together in time. I can't find anyone to stay with my son and our dog. We have to drive down the morning of and only ride the one day so that we can get back home that night. I was planning on the century option.

Our plan is to drive down and ride, unless the conditions are seriously dangerous. I won't take chances, but I won't bail for just rain. Thanks, IFJane We won't take chances We do have a bail out place to sleep in case it's too bad to camp.

I'd love to send some "good weather vies" your way, but mine are defective. My 1st Century was supposed to be last weekend and when the skies dumped 10" of rain, I scratched it and settled for 56 miles. Best of luck to you.

Emily- How did the moving of the boat go??

Off the bed to rest up. I've been vitamin and OJ loading for 3 days...

It went very well, thanks! We sailed Logos up to her new slip, several hours away by boat (tacking all the way) (only 10 miles by car!), and got her settled in. We rode our Bike Fridays back to the boatyard the next morning to get our car, a lovely ride with a tailwind most of the way. We spent the rest of the long weekend on the boat, getting settled in, discovering her systems. We have a huge list of projects we want to do to make her even more liveable and cruise-worthy. Fortunately, Barry loves tinkering and is super handy with electronics and systems, so he is in heaven! And I just love that she is like a little water-front "condo" (much more affordable than a real condo!) that I can fix up to make comfortable for us.

So sorry about your cold -- several people have one at my work right now too.

Right now the low pressure system does not look as threatening, and if it does turn tropical and get to the NC coast, it may be later in the day on Sunday when you're all done riding (and especially camping), so hopefully it will not cause you any problems. We're still in limbo as to whether we have to go down and further secure Logos in her slip...we'll make that call tomorrow, I guess.

From what I last saw, the storm is turning away from the coast. We REALLY need the rain here, too. On Labor Day the conservation land by my house caught on fire and it took them until the middle of the night to figure out where it was burning to put it out. I've enjoyed the sunny days, but we need rain!

Did you get to ride on Sunday, CA and other NC MS150 folks?

We ended up heading down to our boat (not too far outside of New Bern but farther east, just east of Oriental) on Saturday to prepare it for Gabrielle. As it turned out, the storm was nothing at all in Oriental, less than an inch of rain, no wind higher than 25 mph. It was mostly just showers off and on, then by the time we left at 3 pm Sunday, the sun was out, and there was just a light west breeze. Sounds like Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, and Cape Lookout got hit the worst, with up to 50 mph winds and 5" of rain, but we had it very, very easy. Whew!

We figured the organizers would cancel the MS150 for Sunday given the forecast, but we saw several cars with bike racks loaded down heading out of New Bern the same time we were leaving, so that made us think that the ride had been on after all. We also saw many cyclists riding on Hwy 55 on our way into town the day before, which was neat.

Just posted a ride report under it's own thread! We had lots of wind and rain, and they canceled all but the 30. An adventure to be sure

Hope the other TE'ers who were riding made it safely (and I'm crossing my fingers for good weather for the Tour de Tanglewood riders!!).
